A few more pictures from this morning
Comments (12)I believe the 1st 2 originally came from Rockytop Gardens. I purchased the last one from our local iris society sale. I love our iris sales. Most of the iris aren't the newest introductions, but I was surprised last year when I got a few iris that were 2008 introductions. It usually takes a few years for the iris to multiply enough to divide like that. I take it as a sign that it is a good iris. You know from local sales what grows well for your area, & they are usually cheap. Sales at ours are $3 ea, & they give bonus plants. The drawback is they aren't nearly as big as those you get at Schreiners & some of the other places, those can be huge. You also can get advice from the person who actually grows it. You really should check if there is an iris society where you are....See MoreA few pictures from this morning, before the rain
Comments (8)Thanks everyone! I love purple (and red and orange and yellow and white/cream!) :o) Coronation Day is one I got as a bonus a couple of years ago and almost lost two winters ago in a pot - it went down to one fan. I got it into the ground last year. I really like Early Shirley - it's finally had a couple of years to settle in here in the ground, after being in a pot for a couple of years. Good branching and budcount I think, and the bud placement seems good too. The nepeta is a creeper, but it is easy enough to contain (not as easy as monarda though) - I haven't had a problem with it being too aggressive. I have several clumps of it around for the hummingbirds and it is a long bloomer too. The clump in the picture is pretty huge and started flopping last year, I need to downsize it some and possibly try to use a peony hoop or two on it next year before it gets too tall. This is the one I have, originally bought from Bluestone Perennials way back when, Nepeta sibirica 'Souvenir d'André Chaudron': http://www.missouribotanicalgarden.org/PlantFinder/PlantFinderDetails.aspx?kempercode=t170...See MoreCouple pictures from the morning
Comments (5)Thanks y'all ! I am pretty happy, I love the bloomstruck spent blooms, they will add some good color for a while, especially since they are right next to my walkway and I can see them everyday. Now I need more! haha...See MoreA few pictures from this morning....
Comments (3)Definitely check out RBG soon. Last week we went to check on the renovations to the rose garden - very extensive changes there! The plant labels weren't in yet for the new plantings so we'll have to go again soon to get a bitter feel for what they are combining with the roses. It's too bad they took down the pergola that used to lead towards the teahouse. There ware some interesting espaliers on it. I think they should have renewed the pergola rather than remove it entirely. Between the rock garden renovation and the new rose garden renovation, they've really added to/improved the ornamental gardens . Hopefully they'll do more of that and that maintenance can keep pace! Re definition in the garden here - that's the main thing we've learned in our years gardening here.... The 'negative space' (paths etc.) and structures are a very important part of shaping and defining/refining the look and utility of the garden. Once I started working with those ideas, it really changed the garden and made us happier/more content with it! Peony season will be starting soon - drop by and check it out... :-)...See MoreUser
