Comments (12)Well Mentha, If you know my posts, don't be surprised if I suggest you unpot them to see what's going on. If it were me, I'd shake off all the old mix & give it new, making sure to add lots of perlite/pumice (roughly 1/3 of the mix) for fast drainage. Whether or not you do the above, I'd stress removal of anything soft & mushy, that's rot & it's likely to spread. Yellow leaves shoudl go too. Got any VF-11 which w/ you could mist them? They'd likely benefit from it. I DO hope you'lll take some cuttings whatever you do. Denise (from Omaha) comes to mind as growing Dischidias, perhaps she'll pop in & comment....See MoreRecent Hoya Losses
Comments (12)Hi All, Dear Tora, I'm still digesting yr. comments, does seem counter intuitive. But have heard folks say here that some Kerriis like it a bit drier. Mine however, have seemed fine as they were, all of them, variegated & solid; the all greens are doing great (have 3, the parent plant & two of its descendants from cuttings). But I sort of get what your saying ... hum, will have to ponder this, either take off my pebbles trays or water less ... On reflection, I think the variated Kerriis were more water sensitive than the Green (I used to have the Albomarginata variegate too, which was very difficullt & I lost after a couple of yrs.) By the way Tora, what part of the country do you live in? Can't tell from yr. Member Page. Dear Denise, Sorry to hear abt yr. Dischidia (I don't grow any, but know several Hoya fans who do). Sometimes winter is just difficult on some of these plants .. sigh. Happily I too have new growth on numerous Hoyas: Curtisii, Lacunosa, Green Kerriis, Obovata, Obscura, both Krimsons Queen & Princess, Imperialis, Retusa (covered w/ new growth tips) & DavidCummingii. I almost hate to say this out loud, but I have a tiny 'microphone' (LOL, don't want to jinx it by using the 'S' or 'P' words) on something sold to me w/ the tag Nicholsoniae Cinnamon, (which I think are 2 diff. plants altogether, but that's what the tag said). Maybe the future 'microphone' will set me straight on ID. My Pubicalyxes are only thinking abt new growth, they're not convinced it's time yet! ACSAgape, is that you Awanda? One of my Kerriis is also in clay (the bigger one), was watering the smaller in plastic every week (they're the all green & doing great), the biggest (parent) maybe once every 10 days to 2 wks. PS: to recent losses, I forgot to report I recently lost my Findlaysonii, a handsome plant which I had for a few yrs., lovely, marked w/ dark veins leaves (w/ a bloom that looked like Kerrii's). Suspect that was root rot, not necessarily overwatering (?), gave it the same regimen for the 3 yrs. or so I had it ... sighing more ... Hurry up Spring! Thanks for the condolences Kim (I too had trouble w/ Serpens, a very tricky one which I ended up losing); & everybody else. Yeah, here's to future replacing the losses .......See MoreSnowstorm vs. New Hoya - Proposal?
Comments (12)Well Hi All, Happy news, I got my gorgeous speckled Lacunosas last night, raced home w/ it, trimmed a few brown tipped stems & hung it in all its glory next to the new Polyneura. The 2 of them in their gigantic 8" EA pots are taking over my kitchen!! (All my other Hoyas are in small 3" or 4" maximum pots.) I couldn't be more delighted. I have already taken at least 3 cuttings to water root as insurance. I usually do really well w/ Lacunosa & find it very easy, non-fussy to grow, so let's keep our fingers crossed that this EA beauty will continue this tradition. The speckled Lacunosa had a few yellowed leaves & stem tips, but overall it looked fine. It does seem to have dropped all its peduncles which I'd seen in the store, a few of which shed on my coat in handling of the plant. So let's keep this thread active & we'll know whose interested. So far, I'm counting 3 people (& am thinking to myself that Ooojenn will want it & also Lesli/GA, for those who remember her, she basically started this Hoya Forum). My VF-11 shipment is due by Fedex on Thurs. & Linda kindly sent me an 8 oz. bottle as well, so by the wknd, I just be rocking in Hoya Heaven!!! For interested parties this was at the Home Depot on 23rd St. in Chelsea. Happy to report they had 2 or 3 regular Lacunosas, 1 Compacta, 3 labeled Kentianas (w/ the dark outline) which seems correct, 1 Krimson Princess & 3 or 4 of the Dischidias (guessing pectinoides). (All 8" pots, all $13.99) Lots of other really nice, healthy looking plants. They tell me they get new plants Mon, Wed & Fri & had it sold out, I would have been able to request they order it special for me, as long as I knew its name. They also tell me there's a 1 yr. guarantee on plants (I'm new to HD). I also got a big bag of peat & a small, adorable Ficus pumila (creeping fig) which jumped into my arms ($2.99). Oh Happy Spring Indeed!!!...See Moremimalf
