Slightly OT-Re: Bog Gardens
Comments (7)Hi Ever check the pH of it ?? Would be curious if it picks up metal molecules Might be a problem for CPs? My room air drips into a Gardenia bush which is sensitive to minerals but it grows anyway lol Have a small area that I allow to go completely dry during winter and then submerged in summer sort of an "Amazon basin" fascinating to watch the plants adapt to the changing conditions . I use collected rain water for the transition which I know to have very low minerals and pH . Wouldn't think you'd have a problem with the condensation. Interesting idea for a continuous water source. Will it be enough water yo overcome evaporation? Let us know how it works out. gary...See MoreOT: Not much in the greenhouse
Comments (17)Karyn Thank you for sharing! I would be happy with a greenhouse one half the size of yours! What is that beautiful blue flower? (3rd pic) looks like some sort of Pea. I hope your plants will prosper (even an unheated green house is better than none) admire your orchids very much! Happy New Year! Frances...See MoreConifer Garden - best color mulch?
Comments (39)i fried a bunch of stuff in very dark cocoa mulch ... as sun heated the media and cause moisture problems underneath ... it dried too fast ... then it molded.. what a nightmare ... but i would never use dark again .... and i am talking black .. more than dark brown ... whatever works.. works ... in this economy ... you are in a good bargaining position ... buy the best product.. and be prepared to pay what it cost .... but if its the further guy.. simply ask him if he wants to waive the $50 ... or lose the sale .... bet a buck he might gladly match the closer guys price ... i mean really.. is he going to give up a 400 sale on a 50 dollar principle??? ken...See MoreOT San Fran recommendations?
Comments (35)I live near SF. The place we go for brunch on really special occasions is the top of the Mark Hopkins Hotel at the top of Nob Hill (across the street from the Fairmont Hotel). It has a great view and a wonderfully amazing brunch -- the best I've ever seen and I have travelled a lot. For drinks, lunch or dinner, I would also recommend the revolving restaurant at the top of the Hyatt Embarcadero. I have taken out of town guests there several times. I don't remember much about the food but the view is wonderful. Walking across the Golden Gate Bridge is also fun (and still free, I think) (you will need a car or cab to get there, though, and getting a cab for the ride back could be tricky). If you decide to get a car (and San Francisco is not THAT hard to drive in) I would also recommend Guaymas restaurant in Tiberon or a stroll in Sausalito (across the Golden Gate Bridge from SF). Both have great views of San Francisco and are only a short drive from SF (assuming traffic is OK across the Golden Gate)....See Morestephanj
