I am waiting like a spider for information this post might generate. They are perennial here and I have lots of them in all conditions. I have leggie ones that bloom on the ends from last year. I have in the past staked them up and planted around them, looks great. Some will eventually fill to the root later others never do. I have two identical pots with petunia, calibrachoa and verbena. In one pot the calibrachoa has small leaves and flowers and wilts in the middle of the day. Everybody else in the pot is robust. I don't understand how I got such a big plant from cuttings and it's slowly dying. It's sister pot is going strong. I wondered if the bad pot got dry but realized the problem has been going on for a while because of the small leaves and flowers They get aphids and snails love them. When they do well they do very well. They take some frost and gain size in cool spring weather. They like a lot of sun but not heat, coastal. But I have had them suddenly die. I know you can drown them and they are big time feeders like their sisters petunias. I have several in pots that are just a mound of color now. We have had one in the ground at the foot of the big grape for 7 years? It stops blooming in summer maybe from heat, less light because the tree leafs out or maybe it isn't a fancy one. Hybridizers do a lot of work on them and they vary a lot. The newer ones bloom a lot more and are more heat resistant. Well I am sick and tired of putting up with the bad behaviors. Some hair cuts have started. This afternoon the ones with bare feet will be trimmed for cuttings. I planted one in a hanging basket this morning to see how that works. After thinking about all my experiences with them I will start treating them like petunias, regular haircuts and feedings. Slow release fertilizer in the pot 18-6-12 and liquid feeds 20-20-20 more frequent as summer heats up. Bait for snails and for those small slugs that never hit the ground spray with 10% ammonia solution at dusk. Earwigs can be murdered with oil spray. I will also move some to shade in July when we start getting those *100+ days. Everything grows differently in different climates. It is hot and dry in summer here, Mediterranean climate. I would like someone to explain the sudden death syndrome. Info please!

I don't think you're going to find a quality complete CRF at a big box store if by complete you mean major, minor, & micros. I would probably go with Osmocote Plus for this - but note that the 15-9-12 product that comes in 50 lb bags does not contain Ca (well not enough to meet labeling laws anyway). The 5lb version that comes in shaker bottles does. There's a wide variety of professional osmocote products that you would likely have to track down at a nursery supply place. Most of them lack substantial calcium (by design, I understand) - so you'll have to manage the Ca yourself. Some lack Mg as well and etc. I don't believe you will find Ni or Cl in any of the professional products - but I also don't think that's a problem unless you're using rainwater, and a 100% inorganic planting medium. How do you plan to use the fertilizer?

I have the same problem with my doberman and especially the pspillon. I want to use my free horse manure and the pap puppy keeps dragging it in the house. I can imagine beagles are awful with their great noses! We hunt jackrabbits on horseback with a beagle pack (like traditional foxhunting) here in Phoenix. Awesome little dogs. We also have a hound pack in Flagstaff and visit a harrier pack in CA. Anyway, I've only found fencing, especially a low electric fence to be effective. My doberman I was able to use a shock collar on a low setting. I only did it once but she's very, very sensitive. I haven't done it with the papillon, mainly because the collar is too heavy but also because she's much harder head than the Doberman so that I think she would simply learn not to pick up horse poop when the collate is on. The Doberman learned "mommy doesn't like me to pick up horse poop and made my neck buzz" which would be the more desirable response. My experience with hunting dogs is they have tunnel vision so if the collar is not on it's not going to work. The Doberman and some other working breeds are much different than hunting/hound breeds. Less tunnel vision and prey focus, more please my mommy focus. I haven't had my papillon puppy long enough to figure her out, she seems more along the lines of a border collie or spaniel, highly OCD and focused, off the charts smart but pretty independent as well. Anyway, with beagles, your best option would be a 4-6 inch high electric fence which you can make using 1/2 inch PVC pipe for your pole, drill holes to run wire through, no worries about needing insulator for this. Add two long pieces of rebar pounded into the grounded 3-4 feet deep, 3-4 feet apart. These are your grounds. For your charges, if you have acess to electricity you can use a cheap 110 charger. If not, I would highly recommend a solar charger which works fantastically. Make sure your grounds are kept damp as dry ground won't do as well. I water the ground poles every week if it doesn't rain. This type of system is very effective and not ugly system
