Does anyone know what type of weed/grass this is?

I've identified the poa annua (annual bluegrass) coming up through this weed/grass, but what is this? I thought it may be Dallisgrass, but not too sure because I don't remember seeing any seeds. MSMA will brown it, but it will not kill it. I live in northern Mississippi.

It looks like a variety of Crabgrass. I would use either Drive XLR8 (Quinclorac - hurts St. Augustine) or Tenacity (Mesotrione) for post emergent treatment if you do not want to harm you existing turf, but there are some other chemicals out there to kill it. You can use pre-emergents when the ground temperature nears 55 degrees Fahrenheit for spring warmup to prevent it.

Oh I think you're right! We DID have a large stand of volunteer flowers that looked just like your link growing back there before everything was cleared out. I never knew what they were called and I somehow assumed when everything was pulled up/bulldozed/trenched for sprinklers, that they were gone with the rest of the mess. Haha. Hardy things, huh? Nutsedge--It needs to be poisoned, rather than pulled. As DC implies, it could be you are watering too much. Have you been getting buckets of rain this month like we have in Texas?

Thank you! And yes, I had noticed that it comes from a central root and pulls up very easily. Luckily, I typically catch them fairly early and pull them up. I just happened to walk past this prime example at work when I realized I'd never found out what it was. I figured I'd take a picture and post here for info. Thanks again for the help.

I did take a sample to the local co-op and they couldn't identify it. The sent it to the University of Mississippi, but I can not remember what they identified it as. I'll repeat that process again. I do know it's not crabgrass. I sprayed it with MSMA about a week ago, tripling the ounces. It put a hurting on it. I'm gonna hit it again today, hoping to further hurt the crippled grass/weed. In the mean time, if you do happen to figure out what it may be, I would appreciate any input. Thanks.

It could be Carpetgrass or Dallisgrass. You probably tell by looking at the seed heads. Carpetgrass has V shaped seed heads and Dallisgrass has 3 to 4 pronged seed heads in a zig-zag arrangement.
