Comments (2)I have the same problem. I assumed it was simply because I planted one in a more compacted spot, or something else random. I hope you get a good answer. I have those scattershot holes on my leaves too!...See MoreQuestion about Tomatillos
Comments (2)My father grew tomatillos last year. It was a green variety (toma verde ?!?!). I know there are purple and a few others as well, but his was the standard green tomatillo. It grew quite well here in AZ and did make a wonderful salsa (recipes can be found online). Here is an interesting article I found for you. Hope it helps. Comments (3)If they have formed husks then they have been pollinated, I believe. And you have fruit so pollinators don't seem to be an issue. I think they need a lot of heat to get going. I started a bunch from seed and gave half the seedlings to a gardener in a warmer microclimate (about a half a zone, I think) and she just picked the first ripe one whereas my plants have many flowers but few lanterns. So patience is the key ;) As far as picking, I usually do it when they have filled out the husk and it starts to split. It may or may not be dried out. You can let them ripen longer, it's just a different taste....See MoreSubstitute tomatillos for green tomatoes?
Comments (3)Thanks, Dave, and oops--I meant to ask my question on the harvest forum. I thought I'd remembered that the two were interchangeable, but just wanted to make sure. I'm also looking at a recipe from the Joy of Pickling and their recipe calls for 1/2 lb roasted, peeled, and seeded Anaheim peppers; could I safely add one hot pepper (a serrano) that wasn't peeled as long as the total weight didn't exceed 1/2 lb? Or does the roasting/peeling make a difference?...See More- 8 years ago
