I think my tomato plants should be larger….

last modified: 8 years ago

My cherry tomato plants have small tomatoes on them and more flowers pushing out. They’re mostly Sungold, 1 Black Cherry, and then I have a Giant Belgium and Purple Cherokee with flowers.

My problem is, I think the plants should be bigger by now. After all that sun and heat in May and the fact I was able to put them in the ground 2 weeks early, I am expecting a larger plant.

Wonder how other zone 6 gardeners are doing with their tomato plants? I will get a picture later today and post it. Would love to see photos of your current tomato plants.

I’d also like to ask, is it a mistake to allow the plants to develop flowers and fruit when they could be putting more energy into the root and plant growth? Or should I just let it do it’s own thing?

I prepare my soil by composting in place with grass clippings and chopped leaves and use Neptune’s Harvest during the growing season. I’m considering whether to add another organic fertilizer to my routine, but I’d rather not.

Maybe I’m expecting too much in early June?
