Is satsuma fruit ripe?

I have managed to bring my satsuma tree back from near death to bursting with fruit this season. It seems to me that it fruited quite late and only now is near ripening. I have been reading that sometimes satsumas are ripe prior to the skin turning orange. My largest fruit was mostly orange, so I decided to pick it. It had a lime scent when peeling the skin, and a sweet-tart taste.
Any advice on when I should harvest?
