Wow....lots of responses. Thanks, everyone! Whatever it is, it sounds like a tree seedling. This is not a spot for trees, so I am going to yank it. Thanks for helping me decide that. :? Far as the annual "geranium"....it was an attempt from seed back in the spring that, obviously, did not grow well. :( I doubt it will survive this winter. I may put it inside my neighbor's covered porch. Far as the other "nuts"....that is a good question. We have a LOT of trees in our neighborhood. There are black walnuts and a willow oak in my hard/direct neighbor's yards. There are cherry trees nearby, as well as pecan trees.....I know because I get seedlings every year. I have no idea what those are. I just pull out what I can...and then pull seedlings for much of the growing season. I used to hate it, but I get used to it. Lol Thanks for the help! Just knowing it is not a flower helps a lot. :)

The blue plant with the long round leaves, is a Senecio. The come in two sizes, one growing shorter then the other, it make a wonderful ground cover around the golden barrel cactus, the flowers are nothing to brag about, it loves to grow in full Western sun. Norma

Jeff, I had no idea that there were such similarities between butterflies. If it ever warms up here again (it's pouring, once again) and the poor, beleaguered butterflies come back, I'll be sure to direct my official photographer (the husband, lol) to take shots of the underside also. Also, how would you describe your habitat? Wooded or field, wetland or dry? Ah, suburbia? More seriously, I'm in NW New Jersey and as you may know, we've been experiencing one of the wettest, coolest summers on record. It's a wonder all my plants haven't drowned. I and one other person are the only people who seriously garden around here. Even if other people do have some plantings, they aren't butterfly attractants normally, since butterflies mean bees and people tend to be terrified of them. However, five blocks away from me is the county park which is a huge wooded area, although it also contains some open fields. My town is still classified as 50% rural, there are working farms in the further reaches. If it tells you anything, there is lots of wildlife here including deer, rabbits, squirrels, chipmunks, field mice, groundhogs, raccoons, skunks, foxes, black bear (there was one a block away from me last year) and too many species of birds to mention. Thanks for all your help. I love to garden and I enjoy doing my part for the bees and butterflies. I'm in the initial stages of adding in a 35 foot long garden and as usual, plenty of nectar plants will be a part of the equation.

I would say as a guess the plant I removed the bright Hosta from was at least 5-8 years in her garden? Just guessing by the size it was when I separated it off. As to the possible blue boy, I thought the pics on Hosta Library for blue boy look more like Halycon then what I have. My plant never shows any waxy blue, it is green to be sure.. I guess it isn't that important as I really like the big green leaves. Its the only plant I have with that look. As to the flowers Ken , I don't recall.. but it seems it flowers late. I can't really see pink that well being a little color blind. I will try to remember pics of the flower to update this thread..
