Ambersky, I know exactly what you´re talking about. I too have been making new beds all winter planting, weeding along the brook,here,there. It has been raining here too. As some of you, that have visited here at Countrynest, know that a Butterfly Ginger colony took over much of my pond and Cattails and native water lilies. Well I and,my younger son, Aaron attacked the pond today and accomplished much. We are so tire. I told Aaron that once it is completed We both can enjoy the beauty. I feel like I am ahead in getting the work done before Spring gets here. I´ll post pictures when I finish.

I had been getting my behind kicked trying to keep my yard and two others for neighbors watered for a week then the rains came every day for another week and I got sick and couldn't even do my own so yes it really saved me. We got nice soaking rain or at least a nice shower every day for a couple of weeks. Didn't get any the last couple of days though. Hope we get some more. I could get used to this, lol. One of my neighbors will be gone another week or so and he has even more plants than me so I hope we at least get a few more good showers, lol.

I have a type of phlox and it is tough. Id say chances are they will survive in case of too much water or no water. In regards to your question, and again, not knowing where you live, I will speak about Houston where I live. We had the wettest April in recorded history and water came to within inches of my front door. We'd had no rain in March so the water was absorbed quickly. However, in the last week of the rainy spell, ground was saturated. I was trying to plant a shrub and when I shoveled, water seeped into the hole. I happens in cases of EXTREME rainfall but I would not say it happens every time it rains heavily. More like when it rained and rained and rained and water finally had nowhere to go fast. Cant speak about bee balm as I don't grow it.
