New to gardening...is it too late to start daylilies in Missouri?

I don't do well growing plants indoors (they usually end up dead), but I love flowers. My mother-in-law has convinced me to try some daylilies outside. In doing some research though, I read that you shouldn't plant daylilies if you might consistently reach 90+ temps within 60 days of planting. But then others don't seem to be of that opinion (my mother-in-law included). I was hoping to buy 3 fans of a few varieties I like just to get started, but I don't want to buy something that will just die because of heat. So, to you experienced gardeners is it too late to plant daylilies here in zone 6a?
