Will my Amaryllis flower this time or only leaves?

I brought a stargazer amaryllis back in november. (i have asked questions about it in the past) Anyway it flowered back in early January. I had put it by a cold draft and the leaves started to yellow. One leaf was still alive but i unpotted it to look at the roots and left it out of the soil. That last leaf died.

So the bulb was sitting on my kitchen floor in a corner for about 3 or 4 months. I potted it up on saturday. The bulb was still firm and had the long white roots.

I also put it on a heating pad. The day i potted it i noticed that i could see a leaf tip inside the bulb that was starting to come up. I guess it is still alive even thought it was just sitting out on the floor with no soil.

Will i get a flower this time around?

When i first got it the leaves came before/along with the stalk.

No telling Tony. Next spring is a long way away. You've really stressed out the bulb, so it may take a rest for a year or more. It may not.

When the leave emerges a few inches out of the bulb should i set it outside in the sun?

Ryan, I started some zinnias about a month ago and they are fairly large plants now. I think your marigolds should also be fairly large by now. I don't know if the proper thing to do now is to pinch the freaky flower buds. But after a month, they are probably long overdue to be moved to larger pots. The slots in a flat of 72 are quite small and you probably should have re-potted them after a week or two. Their crowded root conditions may have been why they turned purple, possibly from a simple nutrient deficiency. I think they are some pretty sick puppies in need of bigger pots and some water soluble nutrients. What kind of lights do you have them under? MM

I would never cut green leaves during the growing season. I remove them IF they yellow in the fall, otherwise I leave them green all year long. If forcing a dormancy for a certain time period, you might cut them while green, but since you've already cut yours earlier, let it grow, and give your plant as much light as possible, along with water and fert to help. You may not get a flower next year, but give it at least another season before giving up on it. Good growing to you! Ray

You need to dig your finger way down into the pot! If your pot is sitting in something without drainage, the surface of the soil could be dry, but the roots may be sitting in damp soil and are rotting!! Hippeastrum hate to have wet feet and they protest just as you have described. They pout and then they die! Please check the soil down around the roots and give the soil some better drainage! I don't know what you mean by a container that hugs the bulb. You don't need a great photo to give us an idea of what's going on.

The tips and edges of the leaves will turn brown with fertilizer burn “tip burn”. If you google image what that looks like you will know what to watch out for. But from my experience citrus are hungry trees and in the summer I feed my potted trees every week at normal strength, never had any fertilizer burn. Just make sure once a month or so you flush the pot, that means pouring 3x the size of the pot worth of water through the soil.

why not give it some sun now?....not blazing hot sun, but some good natural light!

I put it out in the sun and here is the current progress!!!

I know the leaves can come first on this amaryllis so i still have hope for a scape, but i am glad that it is still alive and putting out lots of leaves!

Do you have advice for how long the leaves will last? Should i cut them off in september and put it in the dark and then bring it back out in november to maybe have a bloom by christmas?
