That's ok, questions get answered here too.

Tastefully, Let me tell you my plans in a similar situation & same zone. I currently have plants throughout my house under 27 shoplights. By this weekend with moderating temps I'll need to make room for the next generation of seedlings by moving many plants to greenhouses. I will heat the greenhouses at night to keep plant from freezing. but the daytime events are as critical. When first moving plants from artificial light to direct sunlight they need a period of modified light adjustment...much like us going onto the beach in Florida after residing in cloudy north all winter. I place them under benches or keep moving them out of direct sunlight and mist them often if leaves start to wilt. They almost always will recover as the sun sets. The hardening process will usually only take a few days to a week. Often plants may be injured by transporting greater distances outside when temperatures are below freezing or in windy weather so minimize exposure by waiting for the right time to move plants. Try to have your heating and ventilation system in operation a day or more before moving plants into the greenhouse so you can trust it to perform. Monitor the temperatures and condition of your plants frequently during their first few days(and nights) in the greenhouse. Listen to weather forecasts and make a disaster plan that may be a simple as moving everything back to your basement/livinroom/bedroom for a few nights.

Thanks nfllifer, I'll try looking for an ozone machine. The landlord has a 2nd business that he runs from this property and has the 1st floor as his offices so he is here late most nights. If it becomes a constant problem with illegal substances I'll let him try to handle it first. Nightcrawler1961, I could cover the vents with something so no air comes thru but that won't help in the winter when I need heat. Living in western PA gets mighty cold. I don't understand the vent system in this place either. Its an old giant house that was converted into 3 apartment units. 1st floor, 2nd floor and 3rd floor. I'm on the 3rd floor. Also, I appreciate not wanting to rock the boat but I don't want to be breathing in anyone's second hand smoke legal or illegal. And I don't want my cats who are at floor level with the vents breathing it in. I don't want anything I own to smell of his second hand smoke. I don't oppose smokers or smoking at all. Many of my friends do, but I don't want it in my apartment. I think Adellabedella might have a valid point about inhaling illegal smoke enter one's system. I'll have to research it but I think it can show up in your system. Working for public education that could be bad for me, let alone the health of my animals. Thanks all for your input. I appreciate it and I'm glad I found this forum.

I think your husband needs to stop telling his sister things that get back to your MIL. Your business is private and nothing you say or do should be told to your MIL because she obviously takes that information and figures out ways to use it against you. Also, it would be very enlightening for your husband to hear both sides of a story in a way that he cannot refute. Have him listen in on a conversation with his mother but don't let her know he's listening. Then when she calls him to complain about "how you mistreated her again", he'll see that she is exaggerating everything. Men are fixers. I'm not the least bit surprised that your DH wants you and his mom to get along and that he thinks 2 weeks is enough. Men don't typically hold grudges or over-think things like women tend to do and I think he thinks it's been long enough. (I had a problem like this for years with my late MIL and the day DH figured it all out was an amazing day for all of us. lol She went off on him and opened his eyes forever. BUT, in 2 weeks, he was over it and things went back to almost normal. She was his mom and he wasn't going to cut her out of his life forever, even though she deserved it. She also never apologized or admitted fault, but he knew.) So my feeble advise- never talk to MIL again without a witness in the room, or if it's a phone call, have someone else on the other line, listening. Have a little voice recorder in your pocket if your words are constantly twisted around by her, until your husband sees the light. And avoid her as much as possible if the 2 of you are unable to come to an agreement. Let DH take the kids to visit her, but be careful because she may try to use your kids against you and she will bad-mouth you to them in ways that are subtle but effective. Good luck. I don't envy you at all. My MIL is gone now and my life is a lot less stressful. When she was alive, I was so thankful that I didn't have children for her to corrupt, like she did her other grandkids. Because we had no kids, I was able to remove myself from her drama and lies.
