Need help this plant is taking over my garden!
Comments (4)For now I would just cut it off short (2'-3') and then after the gardening season deal with them with either a weed killer, or covering them or digging them out. btw...the berries are not edible. Comments (8)That's true - I guess I figured because mine came from an outdoor garden in Florida (many years ago) I thought they'd be alright being thrown out into a warmer, sunnier (my garden window does get a lot of sun - I've even had some aloe get a little sunburned, but it still doesn't compare to outdoor sun) environment than in my house. Pretty ignorant of me, but hey! You live and you learn. I'll definitely inspect the roots and see what's up! I normally do all of my gardening in my kitchen, but if the plant is full out infested with these suckers I don't think it's good idea to be doing it in my kitchen haha. I could take them outside and work on them once the weather warms up one last time before winter hits (fall weather has it's ups and downs here). I don't think it's ants - ant season is over here, and when my garden window has ants, you can see them. But a good suggestion!! I appreciate it....See MorePlease help, this is taking over my garden
Comments (4)I agree with floral - some sort of bindweed or Convolvulus. Leaf shape/detail on these can be extremely variable, often with those arrow shapes and notched bases so could be something as common as Convolvulus arvensis. And Tootsie's comments are valid. Difficult to remove once established and with a widely spreading, rhizomatous root system. Just keep pulling!!...See MoreAnemone taking over my garden
Comments (11)I planted this on purpose in one of my cottage garden beds. I guess I had missed the memo that it can be quite rambunctious! I have never won the battle with this one. One year I actually dug EVERY plant out of that particular bed. Then I hosed off all the plants' roots and teased out any anemone roots I could find. FINALLY I was going to be rid of this thug!! It came back stronger than ever. It is really pretty.....just a bit too "much" the way it takes over. i don't transplant much in my garden, but I must have transplanted something from that bed to another area of the garden. Some anemone roots must have been in the plant. I have it coming up in that area, but I pretty quickly pull up anything I see as soon as it gets going in spring. I know I'm not getting all the roots, and I know I won't win the battle, but at least I'll have a leg up in that bed since I know what the little beast is capable of. In the original bed, I just continue to pull it up as much as possible but it's so intertwined with plants at this point it's ultimately hopeless. Just trying to keep it at bay at this point. Good luck!...See MoreAmy Young-Christle
