Need Advice for exterior paint selection
Comments (5)Painting it all one light color, including the garage door will make your house seem larger. The white of the garage door is a bit bright comparing to the peachy roof, however. I would choose a light beige or warm gray that leans peach for everything. Agreeable Gray or Accessible Beige are starting points, with Creamy trim (all SW). Keep in mind that color appears much lighter and brighter on the exterior. I would only do a bright white if you were changing the roof to a charcoal. It’s not much more difficult to paint the garage door. You could do it yourself in an afternoon. Test colors on a big piece of poster board and hold it near the roof to see how they work together....See MoreMassive renovation - exterior paint/brick advice needed!
Comments (34)Good info Juliet. I think I'm switching sides and getting aboard the stain train LOL. I just looked and there is in fact a wide range of masonry stain colors/ opacities - even some that look a lot like the light grays and blue grays in OP's pics above. The difference is it reads more like real brick vs. the thick paint coating on top which obscures the texture. BTW Ive always considered these forums to be a community-wide discussion, and by participating (commenting, reading responses from others, looking stuff up to be sure I know what I want to say) I often learn stuff too as much as the OP does, if not more so. Posters should not expect a one-on-one consultation - you will get whole gamut of opinion! But thats the value of this forum - some new direction might come up that you wouldnt get by talking to only one person. As maddening as Houzz often is, it really is a good resource!...See MoreExterior paint/lighting advice needed bring house out of the 1970s!
Comments (7)Hi Anne, The vertical house numbers are definitely a more contemporary look, as are the larger coach lights. Here is a recommendation for 1/4-1/3 the height of your garage door -- the planters help accent the vertical lines. I would change the light at your front door also. There are several options for vertical address numbers. Here is a company that makes them. There are also separate numbers you can buy. Not sure I would do both the larger lights and the vertical numbers, because I'd be afraid of ending up with numbers where they are difficult to read because they are too low (once they're installed under the coach lights). You can measure and see how it would end up....See Moreexterior paint color advice needed - issue with pre painted ballister
Comments (0)I would like to repaint the house to get rid of yellow and reduce the number of paint colors - thinking of the body as Ben Moore kendall charcoal or current dark blue color with warm off white for all the trim and garage door. Because we face South - the dark garage door has been an issue bc the added heat from the dark color tends to make the wood warp so trying to get to a lighter color. Issue: the balusters are metal and handrail are a composite material that were selected in a brown tone to match the current trim color. If I do dark body with white trim - will it look really weird with the dark railing and ballisters? I could possibly have it all repainted off white but feel the paint will not adhere well to the composite material and the metal ballisters. Need advice please....See Morejass23dz
