Need Help with our built-in grill

Hi! We have an '05 Jenn Air built in gas grill that came with our house. Besides a good cleaning and changing rusty burners, it has never given us any problems. Until this year. The knobs have been too hot to touch and i have to use a match to light. I just took the grills and burners out to take a peek and this is what i saw. (if you can't tell the ignitors are completely rusted) can anyone offer advice? I know it's old and it isn't the best quality grill, but to replace would be over 1k and that's not in the budget. if it is deemed "done" i think we will get a cheap $100.00 grill and save up for a nice one.

We left a beautiful built in for this fixer. The money for fixing left no room for a beautiful built in grill here, so we got an El Cheapo propane. YIKES! It doesn't even get hot enough for grill marks! If you are going cheap, get a charcoal grill. At least the food will taste grilled! We just sold a house, and after distributions, we'll be getting the new built in and kicking El Cheapo to the curb!

You ought to be able to get replacement ignitors and just about anything else on line. I don't recall the site I used, but it had a massive selection of parts for all common grills and the price was good too. I'm afraid that I can't imagine what could be damaged that would make your knobs get extra hot.

We went through the grill/griddle decision as many have. I figured that I can always use a separate griddle when needed but the grill has no such substitute. Grill pans are a misnomer. If you have the room go for the wider hood. It will have a larger capture area. As far as hood depth, you may want to do a mock up to determine your comfort. A deeper hood would be wise as far as smoke removal but it may also be a head kocker depending on the mounting height and the height of the cook. If you get a fancy set-up like that maybe we can say chef instead of cook.

I think it depends on where you live, your budget and your lifestyle. In CA we had a built-in Lynx with a infrared rotisserie, plus a big green egg. In ME we have a freestanding DCS with infrared rotisserie so we can move it out of the snow, plus our big green egg. We use the rotisserie for turkeys and they come out great! Grills are another big appliance and can be very costly.
