It certainly does look to be Pilea or Clearweed. The odd thing is that I live in a dense downtown neighbourhood with tiny townhouse back yards and we're the only one with it as far as I can tell. And I've never seen it before. Suddenly, it is the only thing thriving in our garden. That was why I suspected birdseed...but it seems an unlikely ingredient. Thanks, all.

Thank you. I didn't realize the leaves would be that much bigger. The stem is light green. Hard to get a picture of stems and leaf attachments ;) After looking around, I think Rhonda is right in that it is a young cottonwood. It just looked so delicate...lol I thought it was some kind of bush. I might just let it grow, we had two trees die this year and this can replace one of them. :) Its funny there isn't any cottonwoods around close by, that look like this young one. thanks again!

Hi, From the way you wrote that, I'm going to assume that you haven't had the plants for very long. So re-seeding would not be the problem. I think it that you have a kind that likes to send out a lot of runners. Meaning they have underground roots that travel a short distance, and then send up a new plant. This can be nice to fill an area quickly, but it can be a nuisance in the wrong area since they will choke out less aggressive plants. Remy

I'm growing a lot of different varieties of tepins, pequins, etc. I started them last month. Germination time was anywhere between 7-30 days. A few I'm still waiting on, but I don't have high hopes they'll ever germinate. Chris
