ZZ (Zamioculcas zamiifolia) propagation
Comments (3)You can grow Zamioculcas zamiifolia by two methods. Place a leaf in sandy soil and high humidity and under good conditions it will produce bulblets and a new plant. The second is to grow from seeds but seed production has not been observed in captive growth since no one knows the exact pollinator. It is possible to cause pollination artificiallly but if it has been done, no reports can be located. The petiole (stem) won't produce a new plant unless it has roots and a bulblet. The information in the link I'm giving was taken from the scientific text The Genera of Araceae by Dr. Simon Mayo of the Kew in London along with J. Bogner and Peter Boyce. All three are botanists. That text is the only scientific material of any consequence available on this species. You will likely be very surprised at the true scientific information regarding this plant as opposed to the internet material which is often accepted by collectors, especially about water. There is a great deal of myth on the internet. This article will tell you much about the science of this species including how pollination works: Here is a link that might be useful: Zamioculcas zamiifolia...See MoreZZ Plant Query
Comments (5)I don't know that it's really a caudex, rather than an abnormally thick & stout stem which I've heard/read is for water storage). Also don't know abt the formal definition of a succulent, but that's certainly how I treat mine. Infrequent watering & medium to lower light. I have 4 or 5, have started most from single leaves, tho' also started several from a bare stem. The bare stem will develop root nodes if just stood up in open air in a dry & enpty pot or vase. They also start well in water & will develop a small round tuber reminiscent of a green pea at the base of the stem, given time also roots as well. Then I've just put it into mix....See MoreWanted: Spider plant seed or ZZ plant seed
Comments (0)I'm looking for seeds from these two plants: chlorophytum comosum (Spider plant), full green leave variety. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chlorophytum_comosum Zamioculcas zamiifolia (ZZ plant), https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zamioculcas. These two common house plants are too easy to propagate from cuttings. For this reason it is very rare to find vendor that sells their seeds. I exclusively grow plants from seeds so please if you have them please let me know Thank you....See MoreZZ plant yellow on leaf edges
