Sleep Apnea
Comments (8)So sorry I went AWOL concerning this thread. Three very horrific events in my world in seven days. Robin, Sorry to hear about your Mom. To be perfectly honest, I'm still not 'used' to wearing the CPAP. I still hate it but can't imagine sleeping without it. There are still nights when I wake up and sling the mask halfway across the room. I have tried every mask they make. I think that most of it is 'mind over matter.' You just have to be determined. Once your Mom realizes how much better she feels, hopefully, she will make up her mind to do it. When you first start wearing CPAP, the wind pressure takes your breath. Depending on how severe your apnea is, the air pressure is varied. It's like a wind tunnel forced up your nose. After a couple of weeks, I didn't even 'feel' the wind. I would have to check to make sure the machine was on. Have your Mom email me if you think it would help. Maybe I can give her some suggestions that have worked for me....See MoreWell Dr .Appointment Wasnt The Last Today..
Comments (32)At least a couple of you sound a bit harsh in your replies....Please remember this, it isn't necessarily about the test and please factor in the equation that she is tired...she is sick and tired or being sick and tired...She is sick and tired of having no energy, she is sick and tired of not being able to do the things that she wants to do, she is sick and tired of living half a life and not enjoying her family, friends and loved ones, she is sick and tired of living the life of an invalid, she is sick and tired of running back and forth to the doctors and to the hospitals. She is sick and tired of the expense and she is sick and tired of every day wondering if it's all worth it...Of course it is but sometimes it's hard to keep your eye on the prize. I know exactly how she feels...It's hard to justify another test when you have spent most of the last year in the doctors office...and you have had every inch of your body imaged, poked., prodded, medicated, injected..lubricated...etc etc Keep in mind that it's all very depressing as well...It's hard some days just to put one foot in front of the other...In the end, we all do what we have to to catch the ring....I know that there are others on this board that understand... I am sorry Bulldinkie that you are having to live this nightmare. I hope and pray that it is over and done with soon and that you are back to health quickly. You and your doctor will have to make the decision that is right for you......See Moreanybody have sleep apnea? can you tell me
Comments (7)My husband has sleep apnea. For waaay too many years, I was constantly saying to him during the night, "you're not breathing..." I finally made an appointment with an ear, nose, and throat (ENT) specialist because I wanted him to go through a sleep study. I made an appointment for myself at the same time, because I knew I had a sinus infection. Color me surprised when the doctor said that *I* was going to have to have a sleep study done, too! See, when you go in to the ENT, you have to fill out a questionnaire and by my answers, the doctor knew that I wasn't getting a good night's sleep... Anyway, we had the sleep studies done on the same night (no, they don't let you be in the same room). The results showed that Hubs most definitely has sleep apena, and that although I don't have true apnea, I have an upper airway obstruction and I don't go into REM sleep. (Doc said to me, "you are seriously sleep deprived!") We were both given CPAPs and they have made a world of difference....See More??? About Sleep Study
Comments (28)Phoggie.....it is not a cpac as some call it. It is a CPAP (CPAP, or continuous positive airway pressure) and I can tell you know nothing about it. You may want to read up on it. You said they ordered a cpap machine for you, but you never picked it up. That is really not how it works as the company supplying the cpap will send out a Respiratory Therapist with the machine and show you how to use and care for it and also how important it is to use. If one was ordered for you, you must have stopped breathing several times while asleep. Stroke, heart attack or death can happen to those who have sleep apnea and do not have it treated. Mare, please go have the test and do as they say. It is not that bad at all, just uncomfortable and you will fall asleep if you set your mind to. Also they will check the stats on your machine (there is a data card in the machine) every 3-6 months to make sure it is still set properly for your needs. Good luck and hope you don't need this, but I will tell you I have not slept this well for years....See MoreKonrad..just outside of Edmonton Alberta
