A sunroom break from snow and cold!
Comments (6)Katy, I made MANY trips to Logee's over the years. I think I helped to put Byron through college! LOL! I gave his mom seeds of a brugmansia species (B. sanguinea, known back then as Datura sanquinea) from Chile years ago. Byron used that to create some of his pink hybrids. I doubt if he has any idea where she got those plants! Same with Jatropha seeds from me. Sadly, we had to put the cat down the day after Thanksgiving. She was 17 years old, gentle and lovable. Unfortunately she was diagnosed with advanced liver cancer. Angora grey and white. Don't want another one now though. Since I'm retired I want to be able to take off and not have to plan for pet sitting....See MoreWhat's the purpose of a sunroom?
Comments (53)We live in a 1920s house and we have two. One is upstairs, connected to the master and only has two walls of windows and we were told was a "sleeping porch" originally. Eight years ago we added a room onto the back of the house, a room with sliding doors instead of windows on three of the walls. It looks like a porch that has been enclosed, but it is all new build. The room upstairs is our extra TV room -- two comfortable leather chairs and a TV and the wall that isn't windows is a wall of books. The downstairs room we use for a breakfast room (we have no eat in kitchen). It has one brick wall (the outside of the house) and a brick floor. It's where the big plants winter and where we eat most of our meals. What I would love is a conservatory with a roof of glass as well and I could probably put one on the south side of the house if I win the lottery -- LOL! Comments (21)Thanks, everyone! The rocker (and its sister chair) belonged to my grandmother and we just refinished them. I like the idea of a day bed facing the living room but they may be too deep. I've been looking in antique stores for a while and haven't found anything the right proportions. Maybe my husband can make something if I can buy interesting carved legs (open underneath so the radiators aren't covered). And add a lot of pillows and cushion bottom. I would love to put a kilim on the floor but we currently have a litter box under the desk and it gets messy. Our sweet, old Mabel really needs that location so for now it stays. We also need better lighting. The overhead ceiling fan light isn't good for nighttime reading. And 2 of those chairs aren't comfortable which is primarily why the room doesn't get used....See MoreSunroom Furniture: Indoor or Outdoor?
Comments (26)It's lovely and I think you will use it far more than you can even imagine. A few options come to mind: slipcovered furniture, rattan or wicker. We have a 22 foot sunroom with this set, plus the matching chair-all in a different fabric. This has served us well for 25 years (replaced the cushions/fabric once). Our room is heated but we use it in tree seasons only, which is why I am not showing you a picture right now. It hasn't been opened for the season. Enjoy your beautiful addition! Edited to add: Be aware of the sun damage that can occur and chose your fabric wisely (Sunbrella is one brand.) We have woven Roman shades at all of the windows for that exact reason....See MoreLavender Lass
