sneak preview: my hand-blown glass cabinet knobs!!
Comments (35)WOW!!! I cannot tell you how nice it is as a studio artist to come across a page like this where everyone is saying nice things about my work!! I am truly moved. The knobs that you are discussing were custom made for Susan. All my work is custom...imagine what I can create for you! Please mention this thread to me when ordering - I wil be certain to give you a discount on your order....It is hard to say how much, as each project is one-of-a-kind, but I am more than happy to see to it that you are happy. Comments (16)Thanks all for your comments...a few more details...My style is very traditional...upstairs there are three bedrooms. Two are the kids rooms both decorated in pottery barn kids. Pink flowery pottery Barn kids in one with crystal chandelier and white girls furniture. The other decorated in more blues but pottery barn and still white furniture. Our bedroom is traditional cherry wood, sleigh bed, traditional furniture. Our master bath is or will be black and white theme but vintage black and white not at all modern. We really don't have anything In The modern style in our house..all traditional. The hall bath is really very basic beige so probsbly doesn't fit with glass knobs but don't want to make decision based on the hall bth. Also for ORB I feel like it can mix more easily with other metals like antique brass or even silvery tones but maybe I'm off there?...See MoreGlass knobs and bin pulls?
Comments (24)My only concern with the bin pulls which I love is that I'm getting up there in years and pulls would probably be easier to deal with? I did an experiment on this subject; you could easily do the same thing. I went to Lowes and opened a bunch of doors in their kitchen mock-ups ... but I held my hands stiff, pretended my fingers didn't move easily. (You can tell I don't care too much what the salespeople think of me.) My findings: - Long handles are by far the easiest thing to open, if you have reduced use of your hands - Cup pulls are a good step down in terms of function ... you have to flip your wrist over and hit a smaller target - Small round knobs are the absolute worst ... with aging in mind, I would only use them for upper-upper cabinets that won't be used much anyway. Though I do think they're cute. My own choices: I'm going with the super-function of handles in my kitchen ... but I love the cup pulls, so they're going in my closet and laundry room, where I can enjoy them, but I won't use them as frequently as the kitchen hardware. Let me ask this question: Have you compared the back side of the glass cup pulls to the back side of super-functional long handles? I have not -- the idea just occurred to me this minute -- if you were to find that, in future years, the cup pulls became difficult to use, could they be removed and replaced with super-functional long handles? mrspete, I can always count on you. I hope someday we get to meet. :) Aw, I'd like that too, but since I know we don't live near one another, I think it's unlikely. So you like the bin pull over the glass pulls? No, no, I love the glass ... but I'm going with scalloped glass ... if I had your very busy stone, though, I'd stay with the smooth glass ... in green. My choice for my own project:...See MoreUsing a crystal/glass door knob for front door?! Need advise
Comments (5)I actually used that exact brand and glass knob on my exterior french doors, but they're from the bedroom to the back. this is about 4 years later. interior is still fine. I will say, this matte black finish doesn't hold up very well on the exterior. you can see from the photo how the finish has 'faded' or grayed? The door knob itself is fine. (and I don't get freezing weather)...See Morestephanj
