Anyone use a Shark Steam Mop?

I've had my Shark for about 2 years now and love it. For some unknown reason the last time I used it it made the floors dull and how it's hard to scoot my chairs across them. I tried doing it again but it didn't help much. Anyone have this trouble or any advice?

I've had my shark about 4-5 yrs and beginning to have problems. The one foot I have acts like its clogged and no steam will come out and foot will blow off. The other foot works fine.
As far as the dullness to the floor I never noticed anything like that. Are you using any chemical cleaner on the floor with it? Maybe the steam is just eating away at the finish. I never have used my steam mop much at all.

I have an old Bissel model,but unfortunately it has broken.Pert of the lower edge broke off (it's plastic). I purchased a Spot Bot as a replacement. I'll let you know how it performs.

As far as I know, the only floor surfaces you should not use the steam mop on are unsealed hardwood and the vinyl stick-on floors (because the steam could lift the edges by softening the adhesive). However, I do use my shark steam mop on my vinyl stick on floor in a powder room and it is fine. So don't believe that--if you keep the mop moving, there should be no problem. (I also use it on sealed hardwood, and ceramic tile) I used the Costco microfiber cloths and sewed up some in the same pattern as the cloths that were included with the mop and added some velcro. They work just fine. I would recommend inserting something stiff in them, though, like a piece of plastic needlepoint canvas (which I haven't tried yet, but is on my list of to-dos) The problem (and I find this is true with even the included pads, is that after a while, they get soft and bunch up under the mop head. If they were a bit stiffer, it would be better.) In a pinch, I will just throw the cloth on the floor and put the mop head over it. It does fine for small spot jobs. I've also secured it with big safety pins, but that is a hassle.

hmmm...I would contact the seller and see if you can return it for sure. Never heard of this happening. I have one and I really do not use it as much as my old one because it is really hard for me to push also. The older ones were much better, somethings are better left not "new and improved" see if you can send it back good luck! Ree

I just read the reviews above. I would like to share, I love steam cleaning, I feel it does efficiently clean and sanitize...the key is, to find the right one. I bought the "new and improved" shark mop and I was not happy with it at all..they should of left it alone,,the old one was much better and I was sick when it went ka-put..they weren't making it any longer..until the new one came out. Mine didn't leak..I found it was very hard to push..the steam wasn't continuous and it "pumped" the steam out as you pushed the mop back and forth..it sits in my closet. I want to buy the lady bug professional steamer..but it is very expensive..I was considering the Haan steam mop..here is the link below I also want to share Shark CS is horrible to deal with. It's an old linoleum (sp?) floor. It's almost sticky but I've done nothing different. Grrr! JoAnn, I don't use anything on when I steam except water. I hate it when my cleaning job means I have to do more cleaning!!

I have had my shark steam mop for years but I don't use it much anymore since my cleaning lady doesn't use it. I will occasionally use it to clean up between her cleanings. I have never seen those issues with mine. It might be the linoleum is wearing down from the years of use. It does have a top coat layer and I bet yours has begun to wear through it. Might be time to replace it. You might try putting on one of those linoleum specific products that add shine back to dull floors.

Love my shark steam mop, and I have never had any issues with it in any way. How does the pad look? Perhaps you need a new one? That is the only idea I can come up with. That, or especially with seasonal changes, is your water supplier adding more hydroclor to the water at the treatment plant? Maybe give them a call to see if they are doing something different in treating your water....might be the cause?
