robins nest in lilac

I have a large lilac shrub and I discovered a Robins nest in it. I think it's a Robin's nest because I found this a few weeks ago, on the ground near it :

I want to drastically prune the shrub but don't know if I should wait because of the nest. I have seen the adult Robin but have not seen or heard any babies.

I'd appreciate any advice offered,

I would wait until the robins are done- just a few weeks more- and I don't believe this is a robin's egg. I think the robin got rid of this "invader" egg. Robins' eggs are blue.

Thank you all for all the comments here. I have a nest though while no eggs (3 robins fledged successfully ages ago) the nest remains the parents home. Issue is it's under my bedroom window in ivy which due to leaving them so long, its now completely covered the window and onto the roof. I'm going to build a box as shown by rober49 (thank you) and place it under the eaves for protection. The nest is huge and looks very solid (i.e., been in use a very long time). The robins eat from my hand (as did their babies) so trusting they will understand, forgive and continue using their relocated nest. The UK robins are tiny compared to those in the US. Ours are a fair bit smaller than a tennis ball. I think your's are on steroids. Thank you all ... feeling much happier about this.

Hmmm.......I'm wondering if it is something like a veery or a wood thrush? The nest material is similar and they both lay blue eggs too, but nest closer to the ground. Just don't walk up to the nest very often, since the scent you leave behind can attract predators.

It is common for Robin's to remove cowbird eggs. Orioles and other larger birds also remove them. It is probably a combination of the birds recognizing the intruder and the ability to remove them.
