Exterior Stone Placement Ideas Needed

I am trying to decide where to place stone on our lake home.

The 1st picture is the front of
the house. The front porch has yet to be built, but it will be a gable roofed structure supported by large cedar beams. You can see the concrete toward the center where it will be built. The little door on the side of the house is the access to the firewood room. The garage is to the right of the front porch and it has the same roof line. We are planning to put stone on the chimney.

The 2nd picture is the side of the house that faces the ravine.

The 3rd
picture is the side of the house that faces the water. The big tower structure is my
husband's lighthouse design. As of "today", we have planned to place stone from the base of the lighthouse to the top.

I want the stone placement to look purposeful and natural. I
love the stone variety that I have selected and would like to use as
much of it as I can. Any suggestions?

Your home is lovely. I suggest you have your designer/architect produce a couple of alternative elevations for you to consider. If your plans were produced with CAD, it's pretty straightforward to generate various alternatives. If the plans were manually drafted, you can have them make overlays that you can place on the plans to help you evaluate alternatives.

Wait a minute, when you say "The big tower structure is my husband's lighthouse design. As of "today", we have planned to place stone from the base of the lighthouse to the top." , does that include the part above the eave line?

I'm not helpful about colors but just wanted to say to not worry too much about breaking from the dominant colors in the neighborhood. Maybe everyone else is feeling like they'd like something different, too, but are too afraid to break out. You may start a trend!

Great thoughts shead!!!! Lordy, you are getting a beautiful, new home, and it will be something to be very proud of AND there is no such thing as a "perfect" house. What makes it great is the memories and joy you have while living there. Focus on that. Congrats on getting this far, and hopefully, you will have many years of joy there. My husband really has this down to an art. When we were looking for a "downsized" home and came into this home, I was looking to see if certain key furniture pieces I had would fit. Know what his first thought was?? Can we fit all the kids into here to sleep for our Christmas celebration!! I said, perfect! Yes, this will work. Then we figured out the "sleeping" and done deal. We have really enjoyed it. We didn't plan on adding two grandchildren though!! haha! Always something! Love those babies!

Skip the stone veneer unless it is used in a manor that suggests it could have been used as a structural element (i.e. pillars - but if they where real stone structural pillars, the stone would go from bottom completely to the top). Stone siding on houses that circle the bottom, go partway up walls, etc. almost never look architecturally correct. The worst is partial stone siding on the front facade of a house that doesn't wrap around to the side walls, or fully to the rear of the home. I'd skip the stone entirely from your house and stick with the horizontal siding shown in the render. Otherwise, pillars only (both front and rear) if you have to comply with an HOA, but understand you will thicken the dimensions of the pillars (most masons doing veneer need 2' x 2'). @laurafhallen. My big concern is the esthetics of the front exterior. The roof pitch...shed dormers window locations etc. I’m definitely going to play around with the floor layout. The room with 3 beds is actually pretty large and since I anticipate it eventually having only 1, maybe 2, occupants I will likely downsize it. The smallest room will be used as a nursery and eventually an office :) I’m considering having the continual roof ridge run from back to front over the garage to master room...like:

I'd be a helluva lot more concerned with flashing details than frou frou. Besides, there doesn't seem to be a poured brick ledge foundation to support stone?

Thank you. I am not sure what frou frou is, but I can tell you that the structural engineer designed the house for supporting the weight of real stone; not lick and stick. And the roof has the structural integrity to support a tile roof, which we do not plan to do. My husband is a civil engineer and I do not doubt for a minute any of the engineering design work. If anything, we are over-engineered!
But you are correct, when this picture was taken the roof flashing was not complete.
And yes, stone work is being done on the top portion of the lighthouse and continuing down to the ground level.
I still would like some help with the stone placement.
