Do these mixed metals throughout house 'go' ?
So my DH fell in love with door handles. Baldwin reserve in dark bronze. We decided on the taper lever with the square rose. It can look a bit brown in some lights. We have flat black hinges.
Our kitchen cab handles are a graphite colour (we love them but I would totally change them to 'go' if they didn't have this backplate that I vowed I wouldn't use a big one again but I totally did so now I'm stuck but we do love them)
It's the Amerock Rochdale in graphite. We love the little rivets and how they are a bit industrial without being industrial!
Our actual interior doors are 2 panel shaker painted BM Dove White. We would have 2 door handles in the kitchen. Our kitchen faucet is chrome. Our cabs are a very warm white.
The lighting we have bought for dining room is
It's black and wood. Our flooring is a med dark rustic 7.5 inch engineered.
The lighting we are thinking of for our kitchen is the Kichler lacey in old bronze
and in the foyer is Kichler larkin in old bronze.
We also like this light but it's semi flush and not long enough for the foyer
So do you go with the dark bronze door handles with all the other fixtures in play? How do I make it look like they aren't on their own. Am I the only one who cares about this? I'm trying to get away from the satin nickel. Should I do a flat black interior door handle? Can you recommend one that has a warranty (Emteck didn't have the finish warranty on it).
Can anybody help me or am I so far beyond help already? Thanks!

Comments (6)I think mixing is fine, but it has to be done thoughtfully so you have the right mix not a mish-mash mix. Candice Olson mixes metal finishes all the time. Do you like her style? Great rooms mix furniture finishes all the time too. Our master bathroom has chrome faucets and brushed silver lights (here when we moved in), and it looks terrible. The faucets are ultra-mod and the lights are transitional; it's a mish-mash mix. I think you said your cabinets are cherry, right? I would think the bronze dining light could relate to the cabinets. Comments (11)You do need continuity, but that doesn't necessarily mean matching everything. Our first floor is all hand-rubbed brass from Visual Comfort. Those rooms all flow together, and using the same metal finish makes everything seem more spacious. Upstairs, brass continues into the hallway and MBR. But two rooms--my office and the guest room--have ORB. You see both at once when you look right at the top of the stairs, so I didn't want them to clash with each other. Plus, the metals give the rooms a different feeling. My office is very vintage in style. We had a hammered wrought iron bed and bookcase for the guest room to start with, so I went with a concept that combines dark metals with a crystal and ORB mini-chandelier. The bathrooms are different metals entirely. Upstairs is nickel, which I will never do again, and downstairs is chrome. I think it's pretty traditional to use different metals in bathrooms. My point is, you can certainly match everything if you feel like it. Nothing wrong with it at all. You can also mix it up. What I wouldn't do is ignore which rooms flow into each other, use a different finish in every room, or overlook the type of mood you want to set in each room. Your lighting choices in a new build are one of the first decisions you'll make that cross the line from architecture into decorating, and each of those decisions closes the door to other options. Comments (10)I would say that as long as there is some sort of logic for determining which metals are used where, I don't think there is any issue with having different metals. For instance, in our house all of the formal public rooms use yellow metals (brass/bronze) while the kitchen and bathrooms have white metals (brushed nickel and stainless steel in the kitchen and two bathrooms, chrome and brushed chrome in the third bathroom). The bedrooms don't have much of their own hardware, but the fans are all oxidized/dark bronze. As was noted above, the one I would look at is whether the kitchen and laundry room feel like they go together. Make sure you put your cabinet door and hardware choices next to each other and ask is they look like they belong to the same house. Comments (6)I have a 20s storybook/ English cottage style home with mahagony stained doors with brass key hole plates surrounded by orginal paint grade casings. Painted wood work with solid dark doors was very common in Victorian, storybook and Spanish style homes built in the twenties. I found a nice replica door via rings end when doing my addition. I used a key plate and knob sourced through a local salvage supply store. Part of the glass knob appeal is the skeleton keys so if you could find real plates and knobs with skeleton keys via salvage yards that would be ideal. Row of small linen closet doors in hallway.
