Every rose garden in our neighborhood seemed to have had Peace in the 1960's along with 'J.F.K., and usually Tiffany a very fragrant pink blend rose in our neighborhood when I was growing up in Seattle, in Washington state. My mom grew J.F.K. and a few reds that I don't remember and what looked like 'Eclipse' an earlier yellow H.T. rose, and Mlle. Cecille Bruner' which she called "Cecil Bruner" . Other popular roses in the 60's were Queen Elizabeth ( the second) though I don't remember it being marketed as such over here. 'Pink Favorite' a disease resistant H.T. was popular over here in the 1960's Fred Loads' a vibrant orange rose that was popular in England in the late 1960's. It's a shorter rose than a typical H.T. we class it as a Florabunda. Virgo' a tall growing white H.T. that has a narrow growth habit. Several roses from the early 1900's were still being grown in the 1960's, where I lived, especially white H.T.s and a few Polyanthas; a lot of the Koster roses, Margot Koster and her clan. 'The Fairy' which is a wonderful rosebush, (folks who grow Old Garden Roses which are those roses which classes existed before 1867, often pay as much attention to the beauty or lack of , the entire bush and leaves as they do the flower of a rosebush) The Fairy has the whole package plus its' very disease resistant with small darling pink blooms and dark green leaves. 'Mrs. Herbert Stevens' had staying power and though it came from decades earlier was still being grown in the 1960's as there were so few good white Hybrid Teas. Even Mr. Austin a famous English rose breeder whose roses are presently very popular in the U.S., has said recently it is "hard to breed a good white rose" F.Y.I., If you know the name of a rose you can look up its' year of introduction and see photos of the rose, on helpmefind/roses.com Thanks for your posting and good luck with your project, it sounds fun and rewarding. Good Morning, I have had Christian Dior for 4 years now, its not cane hardy for me , but vigorous in its regrowth every spring, mine appears darker than the one you have, but of course variations are expected from different climates, soils. It is a lovely form. Im just afraid one of these years its not going to grow back for me =(. Sigh. I havent planted a hybrid tea rose in a couple years now, everything for me has been a rogosa,some ogr, once bloomer, english or buck. Not all of those are cane hardy either, but at least not completly down to the ground, giving them a much bigger leg up in the spring time.

My hubby sent me a beautiful bunch of chocolate roses, I cannot remember their name but they are a greenhouse grown rose. I was passing the florist whom happened to be a rose nursery as well to thank her for the beautiful bunch and I fell in love with this potted rose "Silk Hat" and since then I have been hooked on growing them and my husband now says he doesn't have to buy me anymore roses : ) Silk Hat is still one of my favourite roses. Saintin, come along to the SE Qld catch up at New Farm Park on Sun 4th Sept. You will get to meet rosies whom have a couple of months of being hooked to some whom have years. You will find out the winning roses for our climate as well. Lots of laughs with people who really understand your love of roses.
