Wow, I love that stained glass tile in your first photo, what is it? I like the blue herringbone, too, but I think the flower/circle thing is more unique and would work better in your space.

Yea! Glad you said that raen. I do love it. It is from Kaleidoscope, though the website is grid surfaces.com. The color is summer sky--the one I am going to do. I need to get a pic of the real color. It is pretty. Thanks for weighing in.

It will be gorgeous. I would do the square white tiles on the diagonal. Like you said, it will pick up the feel of the special tile.

I think your blue and white tile is lovely. I would do a simple 3x6 white subway (or maybe white glass subway if it goes better with the circle tile). Instead of a framed square I would consider having the accent tile go the whole way behind the stove like in this photo:

I think diagonal squares would look too busy with the accent tile.

I don't think your circle tile does have an X (or if it does have one I'm not seeing it). The pattern repeats are in multiples of 3, so you have a 3 pointed Y shape and a 6 pointed flower/star shape. Maybe (probably ;) ) my brain is just weird, but to me square tiles, especially set on a diagonal, would clash with the hexagonal geometry of the circle tile. I think running bond rectangular is a better choice because with matching grout the edges just kind of provide background texture, not a prominent pattern.

fishcow, I see the points of the leaves coming together in kind of an X. I think i have def decided that the diagonal isn't good. I think running bond. I do kind of like the pic above with the backsplash running the whole way under the hood. Looking at other examples of this. I like the idea of doing my tile different than at home too--both in running the whole way and not doing diag tiles.

I like the image from fishcow. I know a lot of people do the framed rectangle thing, but it always looks a little like a serving tray stuck on the wall to me! Not that there's anything wrong with that...

So glad to see you made a decision. I love it! I think it will look perfect for your Florida beach condo. Nice job on the mock up too!

I would somehow measure the flower pattern and figure out the widths and height needed to have them end perfect, without chopping off a petal.

I like the way fish cows picture looks without a framed area. However, as I really look close, I think it would make me insane the way the pattern is cut off on the left side. With yours being almost a flower look, you'll need to be careful not to chop it up weird.

Thanks, rebunky. Unfortunately, I think some flowers will have to be cut since they are offset, but I think the key is to cut them off right in the middle where the points come together. Would make one row full and the ones above and below cut perfectly in half. That point is one good reason to consider framing it out. Then I can pick the right dimensions for the most pleasing look. Thanks for bringing this up. I need to really plan! The other thing that is a pro of framing is that I will need less tile and it is expensive.

Could you use the same pattern of tile all around the backsplash, but in all white, and just use the blue petals behind the range? I think that will be a hard tile to put in an accent frame, without cutting the pattern off in an awkward way. I think it might look better than putting it with a square or rectangular shape tile.

Kelleg- yes that what I was thinking. Sort of like how the bottom right corner of your mock up shows.

But jlc has an interesting idea that might look really nice because the little cut offs could be in the white.....hmmmm a new mock up maybe???

Edit: I was thinking about it and nevermind...forget that last idea. It's definitely not worth your left arm and leg just for a slight pattern of basically a white tile background, huh!

How wide are the circles? How wide are the range and hood? If the math almost works out there are ways a good tilesetter could cheat a little, such as adjusting the width of the liner between the accent and the field tiles, to get the pattern to end at a good place and fill the space behind the range.

I like jlc's idea, if you can afford it. You could even have the blue
"fade out" at the edges by using a mix of blue and white petals for a
few circles.

I can't afford to use it on the whole thing! Well, I guess I could, but it would take a big bite out of the budget. I did originally think of putting it everywhere in the blue, but I just don't love that look. Here is my inspiration pic for my kitchen now. And, below is an all over pattern that just doesn't do it for me even though it is a great tile and a nice kitchen.
