This is one I had considered when Vintage did their releases last fall. I couldn't find many pictures, but just the name itself was interesting! If I remember correctly, I think I decided against it because I was worried about its hardiness (I usually can grow noisettes and teas, but some don't make it thorugh their first winter; Champney's Pink Cluster dies back to its roots every winter but keeps coming back...though little gal). "Car Wash Rose" is a great looking rose though! Tammy

i don't have any experience with drift series, but i wouldn't be afraid to try any meidiland roses.

I was frustrated around 15 years ago, when I was growing 2 of the earlier Austin releases, The Pilgrim and Claire Rose; I had a trio each of these 2 varieties, planted in a triangle around 6 feet apart from each other. Both had spectacular flowers, but they both threw 10 foot canes with a single cluster of perhaps 5 roses at their ends. The Pilgrim has canes that are thin and very flexible and so I tried "self pegging" them, tying the tips of the cane to the crown of the plant; I tied these canes down all around the plant, so that if you viewed it from above, the looped canes looked like spokes in a wheel. The leaves on the canes were around 6 inches or so apart; all of the buds on the self-pegged canes broke, and so there were around 20 lateral canes the grew from each of the 6 or so canes from each of the 3 plants. The lateral canes each bore a cluster of flowers, which produced a massive amount of color. After the flowers faded, I trimmed the laterals back to 2 nodes, which produced another set of flowers. I did this all summer long. Claire Rose produced 10 foot canes that were very stiff and not flexible enough to self-peg. And so I carefully bent them down; the distance from the tip of each cane to the crown of the plant was around 5 feet or so. The result was the same as it was with the The Pilgrim, with buds breaking all along each of the 6 or so canes on each of the 3 plants. And when they produced flowers on the tips of each of the laterals, I trimmed them off when they faded. Yes it takes a bit of work to do this, but the return on this investment of time was well worth it! Rather than getting a single cluster at the end of each of the 6 main canes, I was able to get many times that number with each flush.

Amanda, that's not a bad idea. The gentleman who did my deck started out building his own and as he ran out of projects he did his neighbors; later formed a company and managed six teams LOL Vaporvac, good eyes! Yes those are Summer Romance freshly picked last May. I planted 4 of them in the ground early April and got tons of flowers throughout the season. The fragrance is divine! They stayed "evergreen" for me this winter (we have a mild winter so far) but I did pull off all the leaves and forced them to go dormant - hope I did not mess them up by doing that (I am such a rose newbie)! I will be sure to post up photos of my rose beds in bloom this year (I have received so much helpful advice on here that I am very happy to share what I have learned). I did have a photo of one rose bed taken back in June - a total of 28 roses there, approx. half Meilland and half DA roses - bushes were still small with a few flowers, mostly green! Lilyfinch, congratulations on your new start! I look at it as a "reset button" for new opportunities (of buy buy buy) LOL That way you may order all your favorite roses and the ones proven to be best performers all over again. And I am sure you will know exactly "who goes where" and "who compliments whom" this second round!
