Stripping old paint in 1948 home

My partner bought a 1948 Minimal Traditional home in 2010. We're finally beginning to strop the paint from the wood trim, starting in the living room. We started with Citristrip, but have switched to Soy Gel to see if it works better at penetrating the layers. The problem layer is what looks like the oldest layer of paint. It is peach and when we put on stripper, instead of bubbling/crackling up, it gets very glossy and gooey. It's much more difficult to remove. I would be surprised if it was the only oil paint involved, but maybe? Is this a difference in how oil paint reacts vs latex?
