That's not goosegrass, it's nutsedge. Nutsedge is a royal PITA! It makes sense that it's growing where it's getting plenty of moisture, because it does like moist areas. Although it will survive and thrive in areas that are not necessarily moist, and is an excellent reproducer, so get rid of it now! It's very easy to pull up - HOWEVER, it has little root tubers which stay in the soil even though roots come up when you pull it. Then next year, you'll have a dozen to replace each one you pulled. I learned this the hard way. The only herbicide that will kill nutsedge is Sedgehammer. You probably won't see it at Lowe's or someplace like that, but nurseries and garden centers usually carry it. For everyone's peace of mine, especially for myself, I'm going to call a local certified arborist to come out and take a look at these trees and provide me with some expert recommendation on what to do with them, even if it's nothing. I am stressing out about the trees b/c this past winter I had a smaller one completely uprooted by just the heavy snow. During the beginning of spring I had another tree that appeared to have it's lower bark gone just completely break at the base like someone took a chainsaw to it (it was that clean of a break). I have two other pine type trees up front that have hardly any bark on them and also look diseased. Just last week some tree that was mine broke during a storm just like the one up front except it fell on the neighbors car, so this is why I am freaking out about getting these things looked at.

That's a nice dresser & like everybody else has advised, you don't want to mess it up with a DIY finish, and I say that because it looks to me like this isn't a veneer at all but an old faux finish, which have been around for as long as there have been paint & glaze. The clue is the large pale areas on the middle drawer, which look like places where somebody, in an attempt not to make every drawer identical--which consistency of handsome grain is, after all, the main point in using veneers rather than solid wood--has gone the other way & removed way more of the top glaze than they should have. But those evidences of hand work--maybe amateur work--are part of what make this piece interesting. At any rate, it's cool. Don't mess with it. Regards, Magnaverde.

I'm not a kitty person either but I'm wondering could she have had a small stroke? I'd ask the vet if that's a possible explanation. I have a friend whose dog had a stroke. The dog was paralyzed on his left side. Not all strokes paralyze, of course, but this one did. The vet wanted to put the dog down and my friend, who took his dog to work with him every day wouldn't hear of it. He took him home and fed him bee pollen and put aloe vera juice in his water (both have to be started out with very small doses gradually built up) and the dog completely healed. That amazed the vet. Maybe not pertinent, but I thought I'd throw this in.
