Oh no! Not Evelyn too! (RRD)
Comments (23)In the Dallas area, we (Rose Societies, Master Gardeners, Extension agents and horticulturalists from all over) have launched a major campaign to educate people about Rose Rosette. Our main goal at first is to get people (including landscapers and municipalities) to remove the plants that are infecting whole neighborhoods. Scientists are working hard on it, but there is no cure at this time. Removing an infecting cane is very risky. The chances are high that it will return. The disease is caused by a virus spread by the eriophyid mite. The mite can be killed by certain miticides, but only on contact. Unfortunately, they do not stay on the surface of the rose. On a more positive note, the virus is not in the soil. If you remove the roots, you can replant - some say in a week, some say a little longer. Of course, you can re-plant with a non-rose at any time. But, if there are many infected roses in your neighborhood, there is no point in replanting until they are removed. Talk to your neighbors who have infected plants. But, we hope you will not give up. Can you imagine gardens without roses? We can't....See MoreOh Holy Cow! Maryott's Lord of Riches bloomed!
Comments (12)Jackie, Absolutely stunning flower! I can see why you are so excited! There aren't enough good things that can be said about Maryotts. I have been ordering from them for several years, and have not only never been disapointed in the plants that I have purchased, but have always been absolutely thrilled with the generous bonuses. I made my fall order late this year, so only have one scape coming up on mine... might get to see Volusian Spider if the weather holds. It will be thrilling if I don't have to wait until next year! Thank you for sharing your pics! Julie...See Moreoh lord, not another fence question
Comments (5)I don't know too much, but when I was doing research on loofas, I read not to plant them near cucumbers as they are similar and will cross pollinate (not sure if it changes the texture of the loofa or the taste of the cucumber, just learned not to put them near each other--I think both are a type of gourd--don't quote me on that though). I also know not to put different kinds of peppers close to each other. My BIL had really hot green peppers and green pepper tasting jalapenos one year. I've also heard (although not experienced) putting peppers near tomatoes can make a hot tomato--my BIL thought that would be cool to do. Don't actually know if it works or not. Can't say much about morning glories other than they are pretty and I'm not really a named variety person--I just like pretty colors and cross polination is fine with me. Comments (4)This is from oneforthetable.com: MamaÂs Famous Sweet Potato Casserole Bake 8 large sweet potatoes in the oven for one hour at 350 degrees. Be sure to lather the skins in olive oil before baking so the skins will slip right off. Let the potatoes cool then peel the skins and mash the potatoes in a big bowl. In a separate bowl, mix 2 cups of sugar, 1 teaspoon of cinnamon, 1 teaspoon of nutmeg, 1 teaspoon of vanilla, 2 cups of evaporated milk and 3 eggs. Add 1 cup of melted butter. Mix all the ingredients with a mixer until you have a smooth liquid texture. Pour the liquid mix over the mashed potatoes. Add raisins as desired. Stir. Pour your masterpiece into a buttered casserole dish and bake at 375 degrees for 50 minutes or until itÂs firm in the middle. Remove from oven. Add an entire bag of miniature marshmallows on top of the casserole. Put the casserole back in the oven to brown the marshmallows. Be very careful not to burn the marshmallows. Remove form oven and enjoy immediately. Note: If you are taking this dish to someoneÂs house do not do the marshmallows at home. Instead, add them at the last minute and brown them in their oven right before serving....See MorePrettypetals_GA_7-8
