I think the foyer color is so light it looks unfinished compared to the rest and maybe that's part of what you're not liking. I've found that it seems to take me at least two weeks of looking at paint to decide if I really like it. I think you need something with more saturation in the foyer.

Out of the colors you mentioned, I think the Lemon Chiffon is a nice color, would add some life, but I'm not sure if it's going to make the space look choppy. Will this color just be in the foyer? I'm assuming it will travel up the stairs? I probably wouldn't use Metropolitan or Eternity because they look cold to me. I think Mascarpone looks nice, but I'm wondering if that will look dingy too. Hopefully others with more expertise will weight in!

Chantilly Lace is a great trim pick and BM Metropolitan is one of my favorite cool colors. When I look at your foyer and space, I see angles which might best be neutralized by extending paint to all the surfaces. Since you say you have lots of natural light in the foyer, have you considered painting it and the stairs in either half or full strength BM Metropolitan for continuity? It appears to compliment your floor tone nicely.

We actually had our primer tinted with the original Metropolitan and though it was gorgeous it was a little dark. We painted over dark red hence the primer. And we wanted to get away from darker color although the red was beautiful in the summer sunshine/sunset.

I think all those doorways are throwing us off, we both can't decide what color goes where and either the lemon chiffon or mascarpone ( which I love , it looks saturated and rich) looks off directly next to the 50 metropolitan or wrought iron.

There are shelves and cabinets going to be flaming the fireplace but it still needs to balance out I think.

And yes, the color will travel up the stairway.

I was in the bm store today for other stuff and stayed away from the paint section.

I need to make a list of colors before I go back in.

Any other suggestions?

Any other saturated colors that go well with metropolitan and wrought iron?

The only one I like is the accent wall colour in the living room (wrought iron?) because it has some personality. Honestly, the rest of it looks like gyproc - nothing there.

What kind of weather do you normally get? I get rain from November to May (think PNW) the last colour I would ever put in my house is grey. I don't care what the paint colour trend gurus say.

audreyrama, don't feel bad about not liking the color once it was painted on the walls. Most of us here have gone through that before. I repainted the 2-story foyer in my previous house 3 times and the whole downstairs in my current house twice, before I was completely happy with the results!

I'm with blfenton, in not joining the gray trend we've had for many years. Misty Gray just sounds like the weather when I lived in the UK!

I have always refused to do gray. I just don't get using that color in a home. Reminds me of dreary days. I do like the color around your fireplace though. Bold and exciting.

What colors do you like to wear? What is your "happy" color? Start from there. Don't worry about what is "trendy". It's your home.

My cousin has yellow walls in her hallways and a hyacinth blue in one bedroom, with a more red color in a second bedroom. All the woodwork has white trim and somehow it all works in her bungalow home.

BTW: Your hallways appear to be somewhat dark. I'd pick a color that has more saturation.

Not a lover of gray either, especially the lighter shades. It's a current trend, as well as giving a feeling of gloom to a space. Even with bright color accessories/furniture, it's a color that doesn't have the ability to make a room feel cozy. Just my 2 cents.

BM Easter Lily, just a tad brighter than Lemon Chiffon. On my screen anyway

Wow, a lot of people aren't gray lovers which I found surprising. The metropolitan which you see in the main LR reads slightly blue but not baby blue in the daytime and perfect rich clean gray at night.

I don't find it depressing at all! With Cathedral ceilings and sun from 6 to 9 all summer it's very bright it here. I'm also in a lakeside town and face the lake such that even though I'm not on the lake the afternoon sun streams in and I get the gorgeous sunset right through my large window. Hence all the searching BC of the way the sunlight causes the paint to read. Crazy short day winters too but no leaves on our maple tree means the sun reflects off all the snow and throws light in here.

I love color but my husband doesn't. If I was single I'd Prob paint the living room an even darker red than it was but compromise is key to living together! I negotiated to paint my dressing room hot raspberry pink ceiling included and I'm happy with it, he's not a fan of the ceiling painted but it was a compromise.

Also, I didn't pick gray because it was trendy, it's one of my favorite colors to play with as a background color for the all the crazy colored art and accent pieces I've picked up from Asia.

I know people have commented that the doorway foyers are dark but it's actually the opposite problem. Because of the light streaming in through the front doors I couldn't take a good picture so I had to wait for a dark rainy day to take an accurate picture. It's sunny enough that the misty gray is reading babyish blue up high where i didn't swatch. Lesson learned. Get the ladder our next time with high ceilings. The kitchen is not bothering us as much as it doesn't get as much light and it's just reading as white, a bit blah but tolerable since the kitchen is getting a redo at some point.

We are going to swatch lemon chiffon since we already have 1/2 can. Mascarpone. And some 50% lighter metropolitan. Maybe some 100% metropolitan as well but I think that would be darker than we want to go. Easter Lily as well. If anyone has any other suggestions for colors.

Our cork floor tile there currently in the foyers and kitchen is going to be stained charcoal at some point soon. The dark green has faded and looks like even with sanding we have to go fairly dark to get rid of it.

I was concerned about transitional doorways looking funny. And that metropolitan is a coolish color to me while lemon chiffon and mascarpone look warmish to me. Once it goes on the walls would the transitions look awful if that what I end up picking? Open concept is not easy to work with.

When someone says gray the first image that comes to mind is a warm kitty. I never learned to associate it with a sky color. I am also surprised that some people have such a dislike for gray.

Finally someone ok with gray! And same here! In fact , I have a gorgeous warm grey and peach kitty and I was petting her while reading all the gray comments and wondering what the heck!

Take heart! You're doing so well, don't get discouraged. Benjamin Moore itself shows Lemon Chiffon with Metropolitan so surely try it. It will probably look perfect and you like it so!

What do you think about painting your entry door in BM Wrought Iron?

I saw that actually on the Benjamin Moore site that lemon chiffon goes well with metropolitan! After I already thought maybe lemon chiffon might work since I have it in our spare bedroom turned nursery. It actually glows with sunlight! So it's probably meant to be. I just thought I'd maybe not want the stairway the same color as a bedroom that enters in from the hallway . I'll definitely be painting the exterior of the foyer doors wrought iron for sure but I'm not touching the outside till next year! I actually have 2 foyers sandwiching my kitchen, maim door and side door. The doors are chantilly lace right now which is a BIG improvement from the muddy sagey brown green.

But I love gray clothing, both winter and summer! I think at least 1/3 of my wardrobe is gray, in several shades except for blue-gray.

Strange as it is, it's the lighter grays I like the least. At one time I considered painting my DR charcoal gray. Go figure.

patty_cakes42, dark paints are in for sure-navys, charcoals, deep greens, black are showing up more and more.

If dark paints are "in" that would be a valid reason not to use them lol!

I love gray, just not on interior walls. My hair is gray, the exterior of my house is gray. Nothing better than a gray cat (except for tuxedos and orange cats). Warm grays are the best.

After my guest bath was complete (carrara on vanity, gray tile floor) I thought I'd made a mistake not painting the walls gray instead of rich cream. Not anymore.

I've been in light airy many-windowed homes with trendy gray walls and it still has a gloomy, downbeat feel.
