Need tree ID please

Hi guys, I've been clearing out some more invasives on one side of the yard and stumbled across this little tree. This must have been bird-sown, not sure where it came from. I almost pulled it out 2 weeks ago, before it leafed out, but then thought the bark and habit were somewhat different than the usual P. serotina and Buckthorn that gets sowed abundantly on this lot. So glad I didn't yank it!

It looks like some sort of Prunus but not sure?? The leaves seem thinner than other cherries in the yard (P. serotina, P. virginiana, P. x cistena, and another big unknown Prunus species with light pink flowers that I need to get an ID for too).

Any idea what species? Thanks!

It is definitely of the prunus family. Dont know what, but the flowers are very pretty.

Peach or nectarine.

Prunus is a genus and not a Family.

You won't kill a tree by removing dead parts. That's something that should be done, for the health of the tree. You should also remove all of the sucker growth at the base of the tree.

If I can find the house again, I will. The leaves look like a cedar or arbor vitae, but this isn't either of those.

Hi Guys! This was in 2015. I have unfortunately not been able to travel much since. At least not that area. After some great info on this thread, one of the many emails I received was from a lady on the Fl/Ga line area. She actually has one of these in her backyard! It was beautiful from her photo. After all this time and research, I am thinking the micro climate thing for sure. I do not see any other possibilities. Most of the email I received, came from people where you would expect this tree to be. One from this sweet lady that had brought a tree with her when she moved from MEXICO to the US. She is now older and that tree is the best looking one I have ever seen a photo of. Of course she lives in Fl. That is all that I have for now. Thank you for your interest! :-)

Hi Embo, would this have sowed itself from a peach or nectarine pit that I might have tossed out in the yard or compost?

It could well have done. They pop up all the time in my garden. And get leaf curl almost immediately ;-(
