I also have/had a pond in my back yard. I’ve had this pond and waterfall for over 20 years. But a new neighbor moved in 10 years ago two doors down that brought in bee hives. For about 8 years bee have invaded my back yard and come to the pond. Honeybee’s can get aggressive when they are protective of their water source. Just tending the pond I have been stung several times. But my situation has become dire as my 10 month old puppy, who like many puppies chases the bees and got stung. She went into anaphylactic shock and almost died. My dogs are my life and I’m quite upset about the amount of bees in my yard that are putting her at risk. When the bees got so bad, 6 years ago I contacted out county. At the time bee hives were not allowed in residential areas. But Lake County (Illinois) did nothing to have the neighbor get rid of the bees. A few years ago they became legal, so of course the county will do nothing. Even though the hive owners are not following any of the required regulations (ie: water source, fencing, distance from property line, etc.). Since my puppies life is literally in danger, as each exposure to the bee venom will amplify her bodies reaction up until her death. I’m on a very anti bee mode. I have destroyed my pond, which was home to koi, gold fish, trapdoor snails and was a favorite for frogs, toad, tadpoles, dragonfly nymphs and tons of birds. I find it very sad that all of that wildlife has lost their home/water because of an irresponsible neighbor and poor county officials. I’m also being forced to uproot flowers and spray nasty insecticide (which is not good for anyone, including my dogs). I have fake hornets nests around the yard and bee traps. But I have to take drastic measures to protect the pup. My puppy also must wear a full face mask to prevent her from biting bees, but she could easily step on one or get stung on her body. What else can I do remove these bees? County officials do nothing. I’ve reached out to state and have heard nothing back. I don’t have many wasps or yellow jackets it’s 99% honeybees. Bellaroo, I have a pond in my greenhouse and I have been using the water to water my plants and intend to continue with using the pond water. If you have fish in your pond it makes for healthy plants as they are getting fertilizer too. Using the pond water will allow me to continually perform 30% weekly water changes to keep my fish healthy. I was not going to respond to all the additional posts as this is a rather old post. However, I have noticed a few things with my pond and thought they may be useful for anyone just beginning the planning stages for a greenhouse and perhaps an indoor pond. 1. I had only 15 to 30% humidity in my greenhouse prior to adding the water in my pond. Please note where I live. It is very dry here and we very seldom have much humdity. It has increased my humidity to a very high rate 60's and 70% humidity sometimes even higher requiring me to turn on my exhaust fans. 2. If you have a wooden structure (as I do) think twice about a pond OR make sure you are using a very good primer and outdoor high gloss paint. I am flabbergasted at the amount of moisture that just drips off the polycarbonate panels I've framed into the ceiling, not to mention the moisture which drips from the walls. 3. I had initially thought the water in my gh would heat up drastically from the sun during the day and produce an abundance of heat during the evening. Not so, perhaps it's the depth of water I have. My pond is 4' deep to house my Koi for the winter months. The water has never really heated up and I can't see an enormous amount of heat that the pond is giving off into my greenhouse. 4. I tried building my pond so that I would not waste a lot of space in my gh. I built it so that if I run out of room I could build a table or plant shelves over the top of my pond allowing me to use all the space I'm using in other parts of my gh except the floor directly under the table/plant racks over my pond. Just a little food for thought when considering a pond in your greenhouse. Honestly, I love mine and hope to keep it. However, if it causes damage to my structure, I will fill it in, or just not fill it with water for one year to see if that makes a difference. Happy Greenhousing Everyone! ~Tj~

Rosewitch, England was definitely one of my favorite places I have ever visited. My folks took me there when I was 14, and I remember bits and pieces the Crown jewels, walking amongst the Stonehenge stones (roped off now, vandalism), Stratford upon Avon. Time for me to take my own 14YO. Im trying to think how I can get over there for a whole summer, LOL. Dlynn, I could have worked so much more. I didnt really look at night time stuff and there was loads to do. Greece: cant help you, but shoot Yasou a line, she went a few years ago. LOL Annie! Teresa, well go together. I wanted to explore more cooking and food shops/stores but didnt get to. Terri, here is more a link to Pictures of England, a website pointed out to me by Denise. I started it on Bourton on the Water, where we stayed for a few days. Thanks Sharon, I was actually thinking how can I even come close to posting her quality of travel guides, I dont do the pictures she does LOL. We might have sat at the same table in the Cheshire Cheeses dining room! Sawdust still there, but we didnt make it to the cellar. I missed a lot of the British Museum. It has changed.check out the new atrium. I couldnt keep up with DH and DS16. Afternoons, when I planned museums, I crashed. Next time! Pam, lots of people did more than we did per day! Theater every night, more attractions, I cant imagine. Gina heh heh yeah I need another vacation like a hole in my head. Speaking of whichDH has another week off in August. Nooooooooo! Me, I just buy the post cards or Google the images, same thing (DARFC from the photo bugs here) Cathy, thanks for giving me the War and Peace moniker heh heh. Next time I go with CF friends! LindaC, I know. Im still exhausted. Speaking of the V&A, did you know there was a Dale Chihuly chandelier in the entrance room?

NEVER put fish in your pond or they will eat your tadpoles. Visit your closest pond daily and get the fresest batch of eggs. Fill a container with the eggs ang the pond water you found them in. Put the container in your poun, cover the mouth with cheese cfloth and an elastic. Wait 24 hours. Pour out a bit of the water in the container and fill the container with some of YOUR pond water. Be sure to keep the water level in the container the same. Do this until the container is almost all of your ond water. Then pour all the eggs into your pond. Make sure they stay together in a mass. FLoat the eggs close to a rock so it is anchored. Cover the eggs with a floating lily pad. Now, there should be a lily pad floating over the eggs, now the wait begins. Ther are two reasons why you have no frogs. One, the compounf od chemicals may be different in your pond. By using this method, you are graually introducing the chemicals to the eggs. Twqo, the water temperature. Taking eggs which are 'older' will after them as the older eggs are used to the pond temperate in which there were living in. By using new eggs, they havenb't adapted to their climate so you can easily transplant them. I'm in grade eight and this is what my grade si teacher told me when we were studying living origanisms. Try it, i'm not sure if it works for a pond, but it works in an aquarium. Don't forgetr, make sure your pond has a lot of algae and plants because this is what tadpoles eat. A few mosquito larvae work when they are a bit older. Tell me what happens afrter trting this method. Good Luck!
