Just a follow up for everyone. Whitehaus has declined responsibility for the manufacturing defect in my WH3018 fireclay farmhouse sink. Their warranty states 1 year and they are holding fast to those 12 months. And although we took delivery of the sink; it was not installed immediately, so we were out of warranty by 2 months. Circuspeaunt, I'm sure you are correct - there are internal defects and you win some & lose some. The sink was $932.50 + tax when I bought it, plus the special flange, plus the carpentry and plumbing. You would think a sink could be easily and inexpensively scanned for internal defects; I suppose that technology has not caught up with the sink manufacturers yet. For all of you with a farm sink that has stood the test of time; I'm jealous, but happy for you. I would not ever buy or recommend a Whitehaus fireclay sink, unless you plan to buy in batch :-D Now I am off to find a sink that approximates the platform and holes for the disposal so that we do not need to build a new platform - and yes I still want a single bowl sink. kj

I was able to see one at my local plumb supply shop. They have a showroom with many products in displays so people can get a feel for them. You also might find one at a kitchen and bath store with displays. Call your plumber to see if such a showroom exist in your area. The short apron allows for regular sized doors underneath. It is installed on a standard sink base cabinet and so is often used in a remodel / refresh in which the cabinets are not being changed. This is why I used the short apron style - I was able to use my old sink base. (Pics of my kitchen in my "my pics" idea book.) I have heard that a new laminate counter can be made to have an undermount sink. I have never seen it and haven't heard anything either positive or negative about how it works out. I do not think that an older laminate counter could be changed to handle an undermount - but I don't know for sure - maybe Joe will stop by with some advice on that. (http://www.houzz.com/pro/joseph-corlett/joseph-corlett-llc) There are some granites out now that are not much more than a laminate, so look into some other options. There are some decent quartz sold through Menards and Home Depot - LG and others. You might find that waiting a few months and saving a little extra will get you more of what you want - especially if you have a functioning kitchen. I was putting away $200-$300 away a month for my kitchen. I got my countertops on a 6mo same as cash deal and also on sale at Menard'sand with a rebate - paid for half and made payments for 6 mo without interest so was able to order and get started. I rarely do that, but knew the $ would be there. Wood is also often used with undermount sinks - probably takes some care, but another option. The only overmount farm sink that I know of is the Ikea which is fireclay.

We went with the Kohler Whitehaven, which I ordered from a seller on Houzz. When the contractors opened the box to install the sink (about three months after we had received it), they discovered that it was cracked in a couple places. Kohler replaced the sink and in fact sent the replacement by rush mail in order to not delay the rest of the kitchen project. We love the sink and the experience with Kohler was by far my best customer service experience ever, which I believe is one of the reasons people love Kohler products. I highly recommend this sink and I also highly recommend opening products as soon as you receive them to check for damage!

I have had a blanco profina for over a year. I really like it. Haven’t had any issues with cracking. I do have a garbage disposal. The ledge is nice for chopping, and I have a dish drainer that sits on the ledge also. I use a rack in the bottom to protect from pans. Cleaning is a breeze - even easier than stainless sinks I’ve had in the past. I love the way it looks with my white cabinets and countertops. Not sure the centered drain bothers me, but it probably will now that I’ve read your post. At least it will make me think about it. Also I didn’t think I would like one big sink, but I actually do.
