Bag worm. They make big webs in the trees and eat the foliage. Destroy them.

I know this was from a long time ago.... It IS caterpillar scat that has rehydrated from the water in the bowl. cater pillars "launch" it either 4 or 40 times their body length. I can't remember which. This is thought to be done to keep predators like wasps from finding their nest and larvae. I had one bounce off my head and land on the patio table. I thought it was a squirrel pellet till I noticed the lobed, extruded look to it and searched till I found what it was. Probably will not harm the animals.... It's plant matter.

Sorry Koni, but yes, raccoons really are that smart- and they have good memories and are trap-shy to boot. Not that they can't be trapped- just that it is difficult. The company might be able to remove the animal... but you still need to clean the area where they are defecating and possibly need to cover it. Otherwise, another raccoon might decide the stale smell means someone left, and they can move into the territory. It might happen anyway if you just have raccoons in the area.

You're thinking of tent caterpillars, zzackey. Bagworms don't build big, communal nests of webbing. Their 'nests' are just as pictured above.....composed of bits and pieces of plant matter and carried around with them their whole caterpillar life.

The caterpillar pictured above is wandering around, looking for a place to pupate.

There are tent caterpillars and there are bag worms. Bag worms don't make big, webby nests.

Bag worms-while they do not make big webby nests-will multiply and kill conifers.
