I am doing Scout but their cameras are not yet available - they put you on a waiting list. So I think I will have a separate camera set up. Lots of those out there. I did not find that many of the more popular diy systems had cameras.

Wired security system and IP (ethernet wired) cameras.. Personally I would get separate systems.. Have a dedicated alarm system that is hardwired throughout and then a separate DVR/NVR camera setup.. We are still looking at the wired security systems to see what fits our needs the best, but probably going with a hardwired DSC alarm that will have all windows and doors hardwired with sensors as well as several motion sensors, water leak sensors, smoke/fire, etc.. and connected in with a monitoring company.. For cameras I have already purchased all of them.. We are doing a full HIK Vision setup which includes 4 bullet camers and 10 dome cameras that are all 3mp and then 2 PTZ dome cameras that can be remotely moved to view anything.. They also set up in a "patrol" mode that will automatically scan your property and if it picks up movement in your set zone it will automatically zoom in and follow the movement as well as send notification to your phone if you set it up..

The first contractor we spoke with wouldn't even sell us hard wired window sensors..l. Said they don't want anything to do with potential window leakage issues. They did have a very small and subtle wireless window sensor... Still not as discreet as the Tane Pill for windows.

We are doing a combo: hard wire the glass breakage (where French doors are), fire, heat, CO, and gas sensors. Wireless on doors and windows ( 1 per set rather than each individual upper and lower window; no potential warranty issues). No motion cameras. Still debating on outside cameras independent of the monitored system. Learned there are many right ways to go; just depends on your protection priority. Are the cameras for you to be alerted ahead of time or to record who was there? Can they cut the power? Can the wireless be jammed from the street? Where will you store the video and could the device be stolen/damaged? Or will you use a cloud set up? How good is the night resolution of the cameras? Good luck with your decision making.

There are a lot of technological advances the last couple of years that reduce or eliminate the need for subscription based security systems. It is a good idea to have cameras and it is best to have the system wired to a power source yet connected via wifi to communicate with your handheld devices such a smart phone while you are away from home.
