I don't use fish emulsion, so I don't know what's in it, but watermelons are heavy feeders. I give my container watermelons some granular fertilizer a couple of times a season (early and mid) heavy on the phosphorus, and I use a balanced liquid fertilizer at 1/4 strength at every watering. watermelons need the P (phosphorus) for roots, flowering, and fruiting.

DAnif, I'm so sorry you didn't get a reply. Please don't take it personally. Obviously no one wandered in who knew the answer. I know I don't. I'm glad your neon is ok. Did you put it back in the big tank? I have never had much luck with neons, so when I see you originally had 5, I understand! The gouramis may be too much for neons to handle. Maybe the survivor is smarter than the other 4 and hides well.

no, they both shrivelled up before they opened. i'm sad about it too. i have 1 more potential female bud on that vine. if it too shrivels, i'm trimming the vine back. its up to 20ft now. if the female makes it, i'll let it grow obviously. but i dont understand it. the bud turns orange the day before(i assume) its supposed to open, i go out there the next day to check it and its shrivelled and closed? bees are out there like crazy doing their thing in the males. males are thriving. i've watered deep daily, i use Miracle Grow once a week after the sun goes down. i'm not sure whats happening. there are no bite, claw marks or anything on the dead females either so i'm convinced its not an animal. but then the heat index has been 110+ for the past 5 days. its finally 80 today. that may be why? (sorry for the ramble)

I have a couple of squash plants that seem to have no end to growing, zucchini, white scallop and crookneck. I started getting WPM and was trying to spray to keep it in check but it was not an easy chore as the plants are just too big to hit all leaves, etc... I decided to cut the leaves that had a lot of the WPM around the stem itself as to not expose the hollow interior. I was somewhat concerned that I may lose one or more of them but they all gave so much harvest already I was not concerned. Well this morning when I went to water them, I could not believe the amount of new shoots and buds in just 24 hours. One crookneck looks so much healthier and has two small female buds. Is this normal a normal reaction to pruning? Also, is there any danger to the overall plant by leaving the long stems if the inside is not exposed? The base of the plant is so large I could not possibly get all of the stem cut off anyway.
