Yesterday afternoon in the yard across the street. This hawk (?) took more than 2 hours to complete its feeding. I went off later and all I could tell was that the victim had black feathers.

Jim we had a hawk take down a blackbird in our back yard. The screeching the poor bird was doing as the hawk was pulling out his feathers was horrible. I ran outside and chased the hawk away. We left the house and returned to some black feathers in the snow. I'll never forget that, and it just tore me apart.

I cannot ID the hawk. It was not large. We have several regular hawks. I really want them to take down some sparrows!

The Amelanchiers are in bloom. The birds are already licking their lips in anticipation of the berries to come.

I believe this is a grackle, one of the free roaming creatures at the San Francisco zoo.

I love the pictures, especially the ones with the young eagles...I am an avid eagle nest watcher and am amazed at how this creature survives...The different nest around the country now range from just being hatched to full fledging, great to see....

Birds are interesting creatures to watch. They stretch and preen their feathers--have to keep their feathers in good condition to survive.
