And it is listed as an invasive/noxious weed in much of the PNW, Oregon included. As such, nurseries do not sell it and it is strongly suggested you do not plant it, although given its rampant seeding tendencies, it could very well plant itself from neighboring patches. If so, the responsible course of action is to remove and destroy it ASAP. There are some hybrid brooms that apparently do not share Scotch broom's invasive tendencies....you might research and seek out one of those (although IME, area nurseries tend to shy away from those also, as their ability to seed and therefore hybridize with common Scotch broom and spread is still questionable). The plant is also well known for causing problems for those with pollen allergies.

There are many species of Epilobium, some of which have had name changes, like the fireweed. Some are native, some are introduced weeds. There's only one fireweed though, by whatever name. Watson's willowherb is a common garden weed, I think it's Epilobium ciliatum now, used to be Epilobium watsonii. Dry or damp, sun or shade, tall and rank or short and sparse. Seeds, no runners. The one in your garden is probably the Watson's although you may also have others like Epilobium minutum in dry spots. I'm sure bboy is much more knowledgeable about the various species than I am, I usually do well enough just going by 'Epilobium species'. What you have in the photos on the Weeds forum sure look like Watson's willowherb gone to seed. They've done really well this year with the cool damp spring. But the photos do need to be larger to really see. I'm just guessing from the silhouette.

Yes,possibly Rue. Ruta graveolens. But the leaf shape is slightly atypical. It's about to flower now, that's why it has those elongated stems. Can you show us when it does so? Can you see if the foliage has a pungent smell? Wash you hands afterwards - some people are sensitive.

Well I ripped them all out of the gardens and started over with another batch from another company. I did all of my gardens and my vegetable crops from seed (I usually do) and everything else is beautiful and thriving so it was definelty the seeds I purchased. Even my rosemary looks great....oh well, it did give me an excuse to go do a bit more planting and I even found a few new additions to add to my front garden. I will be contacting the company I purchased the seeds from I even had a packet left over that I decided to stick in the green house and grow away from everything else just to be 100% positive that it was the seeds and nothing else but considering it's the one and only thing that turned into these plants that I've never seen before and are nowhere else on my property, I'm pretty sure I've narrowed it down to them lol
