Playground sand under stone dust for bluestone walkway?

Hello,

I'm constructing a 30' walk way with bluestone. The stones are medium size, 24"x24" and 12"x24". They're the rough kind, differing in thickness slightly, around 2" thick.

I plan on using a a base layer of gravel, with a 2" bed of stonedust on top of the gravel, then set the stones into that.

My question is, could I/should I first apply a 1" layer of playground sand, and then a 2" layer of stonedust on top of that? The playground sand is left over from my kid's sandbox, it's just sitting around collecting dust (that is, if sand could collect dust : ) ).

I know that "round edge" sand like playground sand does not make a good bed, but am basically wondering whether having it in addition to the stone dust will help or hurt.

Thanks in advance.
