White cabinets, shaker style, subway tile backsplash, lots of drawers, one large sink, intelligently placed prep sink, island in contrasting colour/stain, stainless appliances. I reading more of a mix for counters - granite still predominates, but man-made quartz quite popular here, as is marble of course. And there are a few of us here pushing the white/grey quartzite option too. Could Redroze's kitchen be the "IT" gardenweb kitchen?? I think overall the popular trend here is light, clean and classy. The most popular elements seem to be building blocks for what some people are calling a 'transitional' kitchen - essentially contemporary (in a temporal sense) with nods to tradition and a touch of modern design. It is a pretty, cheerful and bright mix altogether I think. On the no upper cabinets issue - this definitely isn't a major trend here on GW. But, having said that, I think it is a natural part of that same light, clean airy kitchen that seems to be the prototype. In certain (many) kitchens storage demands means that uppers are a necessity - but you sure see a lot of glass and white uppers, another way of keeping the room open and airy feeling. On the dust issue for shelving in "no-uppers" kitchen, it depends. I have a wall with no uppers, with two shelves. I put frequently used glasses and bowls etc. on the shelf, plus a few display items that would have been out elsewhere in any case. At most it adds 90 seconds to my weekly (or biweekly) dusting regime, so a non-issue I think. Now I have seen pictures of kitchens with nothing but open shelves - that would be a dust nightmare I think. Interesting thread for sure!

As it appears on the screen, I like its muted gray tone because it picks up on your gray counter. It looks like a blue gray here and the blue is very pretty with your cabinet color. Blue is complementary to orange. The cool blue of it works well with the gray too. I don't think you need to bring green in which won't relate as well to your counter color.

Kismet, I love this kitchen too and it is my inspiration kitchen. I would love the aqua blue if I could keep the Roesmary Sprig. I am really emotionally invested in this color. Do you think I could get away with that? Lyfia, your approach is what seems easiest to me too, white on uppers and lowers with white on panleing and Rosemary sprig on walls. But ... Falling waters, do you think that even if I had a darker floor you'd want the Rosemary Sprig on the bottom? Maybe white on paneling and trim and Rosemary Sprig on top part of walls and on lower cabinets???? BTW, what color is the yellow cream you have in your bedroom?

I have another related question that is giving me pause. Any input would be greatly appreciated. My ceiling height is 8ft and I had originally planned to go with 36" bottoms, 18" backsplash, and 42" uppers but my new cabinet person doesn't make 42" height cabinets in flats panels, they only make 36" cabinets. Is this a reason for concern? What should I do with the addition 6 inches add backsplash or a time to the top? The new cabinets are white lacquer. Here is a picture of my new cabinet person's product: Although this is not the design of my kitchen, the photo that I found online has 36" cabinets on top and bottom and a big crown molding so I know that it's feasible but my questions is whether it is a mistake for my home that's leaning modern/contemporary.
