Gag gifts
Comments (19)I found the tax shelter in this posting when searching for a gift for my brother. He is a tax preparer and has everything. So I just had to share what I did for him. I took one of those woodcraft houses from Walmart- removed the two screws from the base. I cut a 1" block of wood that fit into the bottom of the house. I glued this block onto the base thus allowing the top of the house to be easily lifted off the base. I cut a 1/2" groove in the center of the block with the table saw so I could set a card of thumb tacks into it. This was hidden in the house until the top was lifted off. I wrote a poem for this & read it to him while my daughter did a Vanna White presentation of the house. Everyone got a good laugh out of this and I finally did a complete craft project! It's been a while. Hope you have as much fun with this as we did. Here's the poem: I drew your name for Christmas It's an honor, don't you know To get my brothers name for Christmas Ah! ashopping I will go. But then I started frettin After searching high and low Whatever will I get 'im (Twas wrong to worry so!) I went into an office shop Maybe something for your desk? I talked to the clerk a lot She tried to aid me in my quest. He could use a tax shelter Is what the lady said It seemed a bit off-kelter But there was nothing left instead. So here's your little shelter All painted so very nice The foundation has been mended The roofs' been polished thrice. The flowers are all blooming In the big pot by the door The bumblebees are buzzing And there's no sawdust on the floor. It seems to be the perfect place I do agree she's right It sure beats a plain old case And your tacks! They're finally safe at night!...See Moredoes 100 percent cotton always have spandex now?
Comments (13)At lower price points in clothing, I think they add the spandex because then they don't have to actually cut and sew the clothes to fit. The added stretch in the fabric takes care of the fit. It's a way to save money, particularly with clothing that is sized S, M, L instead of 6, 8 , 10. At higher price points, the clothing actually fits well and the spandex is there to add comfort. There's plenty of 100% cotton out there, but you have to look for it. Land's End, Eddie Bauer, Coldwater Creek, LL Bean all sell some all cotton shirts....See MoreDo enzymes in detergents damage cotton?
Comments (16)What all are manufactures adding to their clothing..I think they can add a certain % of other fibers and still call it 100% cotton. And than there's the fabrics that say *blend* ...lets say you have a pair of jeans 100% cotton, but the **other** that's added without having to list it is rayon than there you have it. The cellulose will enjoy that small amount of rayon. You see this frequently in tee shirts..might say 85% cotton 15% rayon. The cellulose doesn't like rayon so that's that. This is why I think cellulose may leave holes. Same for Bamboo which is rayon. I don't get why cellulose is needed to begin with. Yes its supposed to eat tiny pills, but frankly if something is 100% cotton and washed properly there shouldn't be pills....See MoreCotton Pillow Cases
Comments (32)Yep staple means fiber....the longer the cotton fiber the smoother the sheet. Its the short fiber sheets that *pill*. Also if a sheet doesn't specify long staple than it most likely isn't as manufactures know the importance of stating this on their packaging. So for instance a package of sheets say 100% cotton. Not good enough for me..this is where you may be tricked because the label may say 100% cotton 1, 000 thread count..or some other high thread count #..still not good enough for me as they are short staple threads so they will pill....but if the label reads 100% long staple cotton percale 200 or250 thread count than bingo. much smoother and I don't have to put up with pilling. I'm by no means any textile expert..I'm just passing on my take of what I understand. LOL remember when you could walk into Woolworths and buy a f lat sheet for 1.19. Yep one dollar..those sheets were better than most you find on the market today. And would rival the $$$ sheets thru fancy online sources......my opinion the best place to find high quality bedding, grandmas linen closet, or moms depending on your age, LOL...Estate sales, thrift, flea markets, and yard sales....See Moreravencajun Zone 8b TX
