For clarification, the raised dots are the same color as the pea pod, and the rest of the plants all appear healthy, although we have had some pretty warm weather lately.

Supposedly mine are resistant. The leaves and stems looked fine, but maybe I just have a low level aphid infestation starting? I haven't seen any, but I don't think they are easy to spot. I did see a couple ants though, and I'm thinking that's not a good sign. I think I'm going to treat with an insecticidal soap tomorrow.

I should have snapped a picture of the funny peas, but I didn't. I sprayed this morning with insecticidal soap and I didn't see any more peas with the dots. I have some that I will likely be harvesting in a couple days so I will watch for them and if I see any more weird ones I will take a picture. When I went out there this morning I still didn't see any aphids, but I did see a lady bug, hopefully I didn't drive her off or she can find some lettuce, beans, squash to hang out on!

I get one of 50-100 with bumps sometimes. I haven't figured out what causes it. I do not think it is a bug.

Well, I think I have some answers. When I checked on things this morning I found 4 aphids on a pea stem. I squished them (I've read squishing them releases a chemical that signals the others to leave?). Then I said a nice word to the resident lady bug and continued checking on my garden. Then I noticed some on the ground, near the peas, squished those too. Then I shook my pea trellis and hundreds, maybe thousands started falling out of my peas. Obviously too many to squish.

I blasted them off with a hose (mind you Sunday we had a horizontal rain storm that blew over my neighbors tree so I would have thought that would have blasted them off. I treated yesterday with a store bought insecticidal soap, but now I'm looking for other insecticide ideas.

Help! This is only my second season vegetable gardening and last time I didn't have this particular problem! I grow conventionally, but obviously whatever I use needs to be safe to eat the peas. Of should I just pull them out and plant something else? When thy die off (hopefully end of May) I was planning on putting in pole beans, will the same aphids eat those?

I'd keep shaking your pea trellis, and blasting with water spray. The aphid lifecycle time can be about a month, so you may not see results for a week or two. Though it's a good bet something nearby has an aphid infestation, and you're just getting the spillover from that infestation on your peas.

Beans can certainly be infested with aphids, but not necessarily the same aphids that like peas.

The good news is my garden is only 4x8. It's probably my spinach. I'm never planting spinach again, I've had nothing but bug problems...it is getting ready to bolt in about a month so I think I'm going to get it out now, it's been nothing but buggy. My squashes are still small and no bugs, my bush brand and leaf lettuce appear fine, and nothing wrong with the tomatoes. The spinach is nearby and so is the lettuce so I will spray the lettuce down too.
