Does anyone know what this plant/flower is?

I planted this last year just knowing it would die like everything else I plant....however, it has come back even more beautiful even through the winter. It has also grown and spread quite a bit. We live in East Texas and it survived the hot summer and a few weeks of freezing weather. It is also in the sunniest part of our yard. I went back to the nursery I bought it from last year and could not find anything else like it. I am almost certain it was some kind of "creeping" plant. I thought it was creeping phlox, but what she showed me at the nursery today did not look anything like it. I thought it was an impatient of some sort. Any help would be much appreciated!

Comments (6)Your Columbine is a lovely hybrid (or descendant of a hybrid.) It's not our native, Aquilegia canadensis, which is a nodding red and yellow flower. I've had hybrid and wild (native) Columbines in my gardens for years, and it's fun to see where new ones will pop up, and what new colors are produces every year. The native ones come true to color, and so far one of my Hybrids, 'Nora Barlow', a double form, reseeds true to color. Mine haven't become invasive, but the natives spread faster than the hybrids. You are lucky to have a purplish blue variety. After the flower is finished blooming, let the seed pods dry completely, then open them, or crush them between your fingertips, and scatter your seeds in an area where you'd welcome some new plants. Comments (4)Cool, the plant is a cross the street from me, I was clipping some of my plants to see if I could get them to root and I thought Ohh let me grab a clipping of this thing and see if it will take. The plant is on the outside of the neighbors fence, right next to the street and they have not been mowing that part of the yard so I hoped they they would not miss a clipping from such a big plant.
