Growing under Lights

What do you do when you run out of lighting space?

(Theoretical question, of course, in a small greenhouse environment with not enough T5 HO lighting).

As one's plants grow, and as they are re-potted to larger pots (and as one continues to plant new things), does one just rotate the established seedlings between light and less light? I'd like to hear your strategies about optimizing the growing space, and what the effects on the seedlings are. Thanks, oldbat2be

There is no "strategy" when you run out of space as everything you then do compromises the amount of light the plant gets which directly affects its growth. You can do things and "get by" but you are doing so at some expense to the plant. The best strategy to have is to only plant as many plants as you can grow under the lights you have.

We replumbed our old house when we renovated it and the plumbing system collects the gray water and disperses it on the roses. But the bathroom sinks go to the septic tank. But to answer your question, yes, I let the water run and most often collect it in a modified gallon jug that then sits on the toilet because we have the "new and greatly improved" toilets that flush with less water. What the govt didn't tell folks was that any lime on the inner porcelain from the water that slows the siphon even the least little bit, reduces the flush efficiency of the action. So that gallon is there to add to the bowl to make a flush that flushes. (And this is better than flushing it five times, just to get TP to go down.) Dave Barry, in Florida, has written of his misery with the improved toilets.

May I add a question to debi's ? Should one run these programs in safe mode or regular ? I was once told (back when I had a computer with Windows 98 on it) to run the defragmenter in safe mode because it was constantly restarting; I was getting the message "contents of drive have changed." I've been doing that way ever since, but I don't know if I really need to or if any of the AV or anti-spyware/adware programs should be run that way. Thanks ! Scott

haha - love the "awkward adolescence" analogy! I think I'll leave them and wait for the rest of the plant to catch up. It definitely looks a bit strange, but more than anything I'm happy the roses are taking off like this - they apparently didn't get the memo on "1st year sleep, 2nd year creep, 3rd year leap" since they seem to have skipped straight to year 3. :) Hopefully by next year the bushes will look a bit more uniform! I would be thrilled if Sunshine Daydream ends up being a 6-foot rose - it's the one that started my obsession with roses (those perfect creamy yellow blooms, sigh). And at the rate it's going, Lady of Shalott is going to be a 10-footer at my house! :) Thanks everyone for the great comments!
