Hello, not sure if you have made an ID, but the plant in the photo is called Trumpet Creeper (Campsis radicans). Indeed a very tough & rampant vine, you will need to kill the stump to get rid of this, because merely cutting back the shoots won't do. Hope this helps.

Hi, I had quackgrass in one area, and I dug up as much as I could like you did. I did put down a few inches of shredded cypress mulch. Then I kept an eye on the area. When I would see sprouts coming up, I would pull it out. The mulch made it easier to pull because it kept the soil moist, and I really do think there were less sprouts. Anyway, I did get rid of the grass. How long it took me I'm not sure. I do remember thinking I got it all and then a long time later some popped up. Maybe you could put down the mulch for now and then once it is finally under control, remove the mulch. If it make you feel any better, I've been fighting Horsetail(equisetum)and Sedge for quite some time. The Seige of the Sedge, as I like to call it, is almost over. I'm loosing the battle with the Horsetail though. And now I have a new evil plant invasion, Bindweed! Good luck, Remy

This is the favorite flower of Monarch butterflies in my garden. I love it. I try to control it by pulling it as it comes up in the spring, by midsummer I begin leaving it in spots where I want it. It also has sporadic attacks of some sort of leaf wilt--I just pull those plants. I will attach a picture from last year with a Monarch:This is a mixed bed of roses, salvias, daylilies and spireas--the Ageratum just fills in the spaces, even covers the daylily leaves with no ill effect. It thrives in sun to part/dappled shade.

I know about Georgia summers. :). Have you considered just putting that area to lawn? I would suggest pricing out weed removal and sodding. If that's too much, weed whack it down, moisten a bunch of cardboard and cover the areas with cardboard and a bit of mulch to weigh the cardboard down. Leave it over winter then pull back (weeds should be smothered) and seed in Spring. Grass is really the easiest as mowing will make quick work of anything that attempts to grow bigger than an inch or two. If you want your garden beds back, do the same smothering method except don't pull anything back in the Spring. Just makes holes and plant. Put thick layer of mulch after planting to discourage weeds (not right against new plants). I'm thinking if you don't get out there occasionally to weed or if you don't renew your mulch yearly, your garden beds will run wild again in just a few years.
