The wife and I were taking a break at the farm and were watching our birds, whose feeders are above the pond, when an osprey showed up and landed briefly. I feel privileged to see him but am glad he didn't stay to catch the fish I've worked so hard to raise.

So far, it's been a disappointing year. Where are the grosbeaks??

southern IL. We FINALLY just got hummers two weekends ago, and we've started seeing a few orioles and summer tanagers. Still, no grosbeaks.

Thanks again everybody, ...we love to share our birds here. :) Carol23- We shoot hand-held (in Manual mode) with 3 Canon compact superzooms... an S3-IS, an S5-IS, and an SX30-IS. These are similar, inexpensive cameras and photographing wildlife of any kind with them can be challenging. Stephen, I found the pictures on the New York bird list. I didn't see the owl myself although my daughter did she didn't have a camera though or binoculars she borrowed another birders. Here is another picture of the owl from New York bird list. I read on Pa. bird list today that it is now in a holly tree 50 yards away from original Norway spruce. My husband has come home to stripped wallpaper and re-painted walls and never noticed, he has come home to a new entertainment center and never noticed, he has come home to a new table lamp and never noticed, he has come home to a complete set of new bedding and never noticed. You get the picture, although he probably wouldn't notice because he doesn't get it either. Maybe just fix the room for you and see if he even notices.
