Comments (18)Thanks for clarifying some important issues, like budget. I was thrown a bit before because you were talking about Wolf appliances. What is on your must have list? Is it flow? Is it that cooktop? Since the walls have already been fixed up, where are the existing power, gas, ventilation and sink drops? Are you on a slab or raised foundation? That Wolf cooktop is going to require ventilation, for example, and moving ventilation can get tricky. To me, the options open up (and flow improves) once that wall between the kitchen and small dining area is opened up. You could extend the island and also move some of the storage and appliances over a bit, while still retaining those lovely pocket doors. But the costs definitely would begin to rise, due to the existing layout. With the existing plans, don't rotate the island, you are creating a barrier to the fridge, cooktop and sink. LIkewise, putting the sink opposite the cooktop is not ideal, without a greater space in the aisle. You need a two-bottom kitchen, it seems. Thus, 48 inches from that Wolf cooktop (that sticks out three inches) to the opposite counter edge is needed. Hopefully some of the pros will chime in....See MoreArea Rugs - Will Viscose rug last?
Comments (20)Remember, too, that with a wool rug, the tighter the weave, the better the wear. I had a wool oriental in my dining room for 17 years that was a low quality, loose weave. After 17 years, it was worn & haggard. But it served its purpose very well -- a dark, patterned rug that didn't show stains and held up to years of growing boys & their friends playing games in the dining room. (Also three cats inflicting their share of damage.) I bought it knowing it wasn't quality, expecting to replace it after the family years. My "good" oriental with a really tight weave, on the other hand, looks as good as it did when I bought it in 1988. It has spent its life in rooms that weren't heavily used, but it still has had a fair amount of traffic on it, plus strong sunlight, the occasional spill, and more than a few hairballs. I haven't babied it, that's for sure....See MoreNeed advice on Karastan rugs. Calling My3dogs !
Comments (7)I would have said exactly what dee said, but I've been stripping wallpaper in my my upstairs bathroom. They're all nice, although mine are all the older, thicker ones, but I love the English Manor styles! I see they are making some inexpensive poly ones now, that I haven't seen in person, but they are described as being made of this - "If you want the cleanest, most sustainable carpet for your home, opt for EverStrand.® This premium PET polyester fiber is thoroughly purified for the cleanest strand and easy to keep clean with advanced soil and stain protection. And, with up to 100% recycled content, it's the world's most sustainable carpet." Comments (2)I've had a viscose runner forever and love it. Is your short piled and sorta shiney? I wouldn't hesitate to buy another or a rug. The viscose rugs I've seen are usually thin which I like. I've had my runner 15++ years...I had it at my old house and where I am now. I've even washed it in the washer!!...See MoreJAN MOYER
