Tip the painting guy?

I bid on and won a charity auction item for "painter for a day." This was provided by a well known contracting company, who has sent one of their workers here for the day. The auction item indicates the value is $600 for 8 hours of painting services. My question is, should I tip the painter? I did purchase the auction item, though my price was paid to the charity, no the contractor. He is doing a great job. I was thinking of giving him $50 directly. $10%-20% on a $600 value is $60-$120. However, the value would have been paid to the contracting company. I'm sure the painter isn't making half of what the contractor charges. Being generous, let's say the painter makes half of what the contractor charges--that would be $300 for the day--$50 would be about 17% tip. Any thoughts?
